Default 991.2 AXSetup experts ...help On SS setup

Ok need some input from SCCA street tire experts. I want to run my new Porsche 991.2 carrera T in SS class.

Car comes with 20x8.5 front wheels 20x11.5 rears with 245 Michelin PS4S tires front and 305 rear. My car is equipped with big ceramic brakes and rear wheel steer.

PS4S is decent tire just not in realm of RE71. Re71 makes 295 and 245 in 20 inch. However they make 19 in 305 and 255 or even 265 which I think is ideal setup for new narrow body 991.2 Porsche. Down side is 19 will catch gravel between caliper and front rim barrels and scratch both. Some new 991.2 GT3 drivers run 19s on same brake and Raar wheel steer setup.

So question I have will I see huge difference in 295/245 re71 in 20 inch verses 305/255 in 19?

Sure would be cheaper to go with just tire upgrade on my stock wheels. I don’t think I can use go fast Michelin cup 2 tires in SCCA as my car idoesn’t come stock with them and they are 180 treadwear.?

New Bridgestone S007A comes in 20 inch with 305 and 255 but don’t think they are much better than my stock tires.

Don’t want to run Hoosiers or other Dot R rubber as I drive the car to events and don’t want to run SSR. Want to stay SS.

What would you street tire experts do for ultimate setup? I think I know what answer is ....just suck it up and live with scratched calipers with lighter and wider 19 with RE71Rs. Practical side of me just says order set of 20 inch lightweight wheels and mount 295/245 re71 and just focus on driving.

If the Cup 2s were a factory option on the T, you can run them legally at locals, just not national events.

If it were me, I'd pop RE71s on the stock wheels and call it a day, assuming you don't mind using that tire on the street.

Go for the 19's, but pop for the Finspeed or Forgeline wheels that clear the brakes better. (or, does the T really have gt3 sized brakes?)


edit . just looked at some pictures, wow, the pccb option is massive compared to the steel brakes.

Lol ! ....yeah same brake as GT3. I couldn’t not order PCCB after seeing how cool they look. And braking power is awesome!

i went for compromise not fastest setup. 20 inch OZ Hyper GT HLT in star graphite wheels with 245/295 RE71. I just didn’t want to hassle with clearance issues and scratched calipers on my new baby. After seeing and hearing gt3 running 19 inch forgelines. (ouch couple passes could hear pebbles caught between wheel and rim.)

Hopefully this will be short term compromise until some one makes real over 200 treadwear ax tire in better sizes for us on 20 inch setups.

Solid decision. Unless you’re chasing Nationals, you aren’t giving up much with the slightly narrower tires.

I agree. I was considering the Carrera T for a bit and was planning to run 245/295 RE-71Rs on the factory 20" wheels, due to the rear axle steering. I honestly didn't think 19" wheels would work with the RAS and PCCB on the 991.2.

in talking to 991.2 gt3 owner and seeing his car with PCCB and RAS, Forgline GRS1 19s will work but again it’s a compromised setup. Front rim barrels and calipers get scratched. Nut on RAS arm must be turned to clear. Not huge issues but I just wasn’t willing to scrape up Expensive forged wheel and PCCB calipers .

For local events I think 20 inch 245/295 will be fine. If I go to SCCA nats I’d likely spring for 19s and 255 or 265 front and 305 rea and deal with scratches.
