718 Cayman GTS vs 911 Carrera T
I'm considering upgrading to either a 718 Cayman GTS or a 911 Carrera T, with a max budget of ~$100K (looking at used for Carerra T). I currently have an A Street base 718 Cayman and realize I'd be giving up on a car that is classed much better. I'm also aware that both of these options would somewhat be underdogs in SS against the GT3/GT4. Nonetheless, I'm looking for some feedback as to which of these would be the better choice from an autocross prospective. Thanks!
The 718 Cayman GTS:
Pros
The 718 Cayman GTS:
Pros
- PDK offered with good torque/gearing (or lighter weight 6spd manual, but with inferior gearing)
- Fairly lightweight ~3,050lbs
- Decent tire and wheel options (20x8.5 and 20x10.5 as a factory option), can run 19's, but wheels need to be custom.
- Mid-engine balance
- PTV Standard
- Nice interior standard
- Price ~$95K or <$85k for used.
- Turbo lag
- Limited alignment adjustability
Pros
- 7spd Manual transmission with tighter gearing and shorter final drive
- Fairly lightweight ~3150lbs
- Rear-axle steering as an option
- Good off-the-shelf wheel options (20x8.5 and 20x11.5 stock).
- Nice sport seats standard
- PTV standard
- Sport Chrono without the heavy Dynamic engine mounts.
- Carbon buckets as an option
- Price ~$100K for used.
- Weight? (heavier than Cayman)
- Rear engine
- I believe I need to run 20" wheel and tires for rear-axle steering option (RE71R's only offered in 245/35r20 and 295/35r20).
- I'm assuming similar alignment limitations, but don't know enough.

I'm looking pretty hard at a 981 Cayman GTS for AS; probably still not as quick as the top Z06s, but would be an all-around awesome car and my new daily-driver, too.

If you're looking at used cars in this price range already and would consider the manual trans in the 911T, why not consider a GT4? It's a proven winner in SS, same daily limitations as a 718 GTS and will probably hold value better than both.
Between the two, I'd go for 911 T, but I am not a fan of the flat 4 sound in the 718 even though it may be a better autocross car

Don't forget about the SCCA's +/- 1" wheel option if you're planning to run with them -- if the best stock wheels are 20s, then you can run 19s in Street.

There is a nice 911T in the classified section right now. Would have been very tempting if it had popped up before I picked up my GT4.
