Default sjfehr and burglar, start your engines -- 265s to be allowed in STU

From the August Fastrack:

The STAC and SEB recommend an allowance for 265 wide tires on STU 2WD mid and rear-engine cars.

Change Section 14.3 as follows:

“Tires shall have a section width up to and including the following (mm):
STR (2WD), STU (2WD, mid-engine, rearengine).................................................................255
STH (2WD), STX (2WD), STU (AWD), STU (2WD, mid-engine, rearengine).............................265
I expect you both to have ST build threads started by this time next week.

I'm sure Bring a Trailer would be happy to fund your STR or STU adventure.

That wasn't my letter about tires in ST, mine got the "thanks for your input" response at the bottom. My AS-legal Boxster S remains illegal in any ST class, which just seems completely absurd. There needs to be a prep progression for every car; why is SCCA dragging their feed so long about creating new ST categories where faster cars don't need to be handicapped by BoP restrictions?

Allowing Porsches to run OEM tires is at least an improvement on the status quo, though.

I tried that already. Didn't work out. Looks like I'll have to try again.

Side note, does a 981 base really do 75mph in 2nd on the oe diameter tires?

If you’re in AS your in STU, no?

STU

Porsche
Boxster (987.2 & 981.1) (2009-15) Boxster S (987) (2005-12) Cayman (987.2 & 981.1)
Cayman S (987) (2006-12)
Can the STU ruleset make one of these cars consintently faster than a GT4?

I think stiffer springs will add a little speed, but with narrower tires, less power and similar weight, it is unlikely

Not on 275s. If I'd take my 100%-AS-legal Boxster and try to bump to STU to make a class for a Tour or something, I'd get protested.

I still don't think there would be sufficient support for a "super ST." The very first thing that would go there, and would need to for it to work, would be the C5 z06. The existence of CAM-S makes what would be the most popular SST cars moot, much like STP, despite being good on paper, hasn't gone anywhere. I don't think there's enough non-CAM legal cars out there to make an SST worthwhile.

FWIW, I think a well setup and driven 987.2S would be right up there in STU, if not an overdog, on most courses. I think the boost buggies still have an advantage low speed pin turn to pin turn courses, and a C5 or Z has an advantage at a high speed, all sweeper roadcourse type deal.

There's two other cars that I think would also wreck house in STU if built...

Oh, ok. I thought you were just mistaken...didn't realize you were on to the next excuse already. Carry on

Would you run 265 square with an STU setup?

This is completely anecdotal and not even directly correlatable, but I did a lot of work and spent a lot of money to fit 255s on 9s in the front of my STR 911. The car is faster on its 225/255 staggered setup.

A Cayman is a lot better than 40:60 though so who knows.

Why was that? Too loose with the big tires up front?
