Another way to look at it is that a GT3 is to a base 996 as a C5 Z06 is to a base Z06. The difference is actually arguably bigger than it is for the Vette, as a base Vette has no real weaknesses, whereas, as knfeparty mentioned, a base 996 has almost no front camber.

Fun fact: if this post is to be believed, the GT3's springs are 54% stiffer in front and 171% (!!!) stiffer in back than the base 996's springs. I'm not sure how the M030 springs compare, but on the 986 at least, the North American M030 springs were only subtly stiffer than the base ones.

In ST trim, all of the GT3's advantages would go away except for the more powerful motor. Not sure how fast an ST 996 would be, though, since it would be limited by the rules to 255 rear tires.

The 255 rear tire would be the limiting factor but would be fun.

I run 255 front tires. The 255 tire limit is bonkers. Did that actually make it into the rulebook?

I know whoever writes the ST rules must have bad taste in cars...both of my cars in ST form would require narrower wheels and narrower tires than stock in order to be legal.

Yes, the E39 M5 is in STX...no I'm not sure how that's possible. I've thought about just slapping Dodge badges on it and entering it as a Charger in CAM-C.
