Connection Help needed - Blaupunkt Reno to aftermarket amp
 

I would like to run my vintage Blaupunkt Reno with a modern 4-channel amp. I am trying to figure out the best way to connect the two and I could your help from the forum.

The head unit has 4-channel speaker outputs (+/- for each channel) AND has a pre-amp output. However, the pre-amp out uses a common ground for each of the 4 channels (it's a 8-PIN DIN connector)

The amp uses RCA inputs.

The most obvious thing for me to do was to splice the ground line into four in the factory DIN interconnect cable. That seams the easiest thing to me. I have the skill to make the cable and have already sourced the needed parts from Digikey.com. Any issues with this approach?

Some people suggested that I should look into using a line output convertor (LOC). While I understand line converters are useful in taking speaker level outputs, I don't understand why this is needed for pre-amp output if I am just needing to split my grounds.

So this is where I could use some help in understanding why the LOC is needed.

Both use the same wiring, the Reno manual has a better image and labeling. U14 in the Reno is the connection jump in the drawings to the external service 14v output (remote power).

The pinout, as I have read in other places, is not Porsche/928 specific.

@SpeedToys, Thanks for posting this! I spent the afternoon yesterday testing pin outs using the first diagram, and it made no sense. Your diagram's pin out numbers match the BQA80's and the switched power is on the center pin for both.

The PO cut the connector off the head unit end of the cable. I have another connector and I'm trying to figure this out. Using this ( or the other ) pin out diagram to make a new cable to connect to the BQA80, is still a bit confusing. It's obviously not a straight through cable. The BQA80 requires 6 signals & switched power for a total of 7 wires. The cable in the car has 6 wires. I can't put the left and right ground signals together, as they are separate pins on the BQA80 side and the cable is pinned for them.

The cable in the car has "Blaupunkt" and a part number ( CR 1 768 024 0 ), but has no wire on pin 7. According to the BQA80's pin outs, that is the Left Rear signal. Googling that part number returns nothing applicable. The cable is routed under the carpet, under the floor mat. I thought that was suspicious. I expected it to route up around the foot well by the fuse panel. Is this some aftermarket cable?

My car is an 88 928 5 speed. The Reno came with the car but was not installed. I assume it's the original.

If anyone out there could shed light on some of the following it would be much appreciated:

1. How many wires in your factory cable?
2. Was it routed under the carpet?
3. Do you have the same part number cable?
4. Is it possible the factory BQA80's have a different pin out configuration ( that seems unlikely to me but you never know )?
5. Does anyone have the service manual for the BQA80?
