Default 996 with Hifi M490 stripped

Hey guys,

I'm a handy dude but not saavy in the car audio world.

My '99 996 was originally equipped with the 490 option code HiFi system with in-dash equalizer. It's also equipped with the CR-220 cassette player.

When I got the car, the factory Harmon amp was missing as well as the in-dash equalizer. The external CD unit in the frunk is still there. For cost concerns, I want to install a tasteful, low key, single DIN unit and I'm leaning towards this Kenwood: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113BT31...U.html?tp=5684. It appears I can do this more cheaply than getting a used CDR-220 with iPhone connector.

Any thoughts on the issues that I'll have with installation given the fact that the factory amp and harness are missing? I don't need a powerful system as I prefer the exhaust note much more. I'm just looking for something with Bluetooth and USB/iPhone connection. At this point I think I'm okay with having the head unit drive the speakers, if that's possible.

Any insight is greatly appreciated. Please be gentle.
