MOST-HUR/997 or scrap Bose?
 

The NAV-TV MOST-HUR/997 runs about $650 and so I was wondering if it's just better to scrap the Bose and get a new system. I'm planning to get a headunit either way so it's the rest of the gear I'm thinking of. I'm wondering how much more it would cost and how much better it would sound. TIA

I would get a new system. If your replacing the head unit you should do everything at once. Price depends on your taste in equipment and type of install. are you looking to do a sub as well?

I'm not that far into my research but it would be nice without the pricing going way north to replace the sub. I don't need the best of the best. I see Alpine is popular but I also saw the Kenwood DNX891HD that isn't as pricey. How much more and how much better would it sound if I scrap the Bose. I'm not sure where the sweet spot it but I know it's largely subjective. Thanks.

I am getting the NAV-TV system installed with front and rear cameras today. I did a lot of research regarding the install time and the challenges for a clean nice job. My efforts resulted in learning that one of the top installers was located in my city. I also looked at the option of replacing the head unit.

In the end, I like a clean OEM look, and the $$ made sense to just go with the NAV-TV system. Let's hope I am right!

the bose unit in my past 997 was more than plenty for me. but, i agree if you're replacing the head unit you may as well redo it all.

The labor ends up getting you at the end for the complete install. The Bose is fine it's just swallowing the HUR/997 device which is tough.

Not sure if you've completed your install yet but I would recommend the NAVTV with a head unit replacement. I have the Bose system and really thought it sounded like crap with the stock head unit so I had the same predicament as you. I installed myself and can honestly say it sounds great. The head unit really improves the sound quality. I started with the Pioneer NEX4000 but changed my mind a couple days later and threw in the new Alpine iLX-007. Really sweet clean looking head unit. Be aware though it doesn't come with any features other than the new Apple CarPlay and radio. Im an iPhone guy and CarPlay is all I need. If you want bluetooth, CD/DVD, SD card, HD radio, Satellite radio, etc, etc, go with the Pioneer. I'm on a trip and can post some pics when I get home. Hope this info helps a little!

Thanks is does. It's either this or do a Dension or mObridge. How easy was the removal of the PCM? The wiring doesn't scare me, it's breaking something to get back there or it just not going back nicely.

Its really easy. Theres only 4 trim panels total that need to be removed which reveal the side of the PCM. Two hex screws turned on each side of the PCM and it slides right out. Once your new head unit wire harness is wired to the NAVTV its plug and play. New unit slides in, trim bezel attached, throw the trim panels back on, then your rock'n and roll'n. I found the NAVTV and bezel kit from euromotorspeed on eBay for $750. If you get the head unit first and send them the wire harness, they'll even solder it for you.

Thanks man!. Anything buggy or weird with the CarPlay so far? Maps and other things work well? I assume you stream Pandora and/or Spotify?

Someone is selling that Alpine, NAV, bezel, bypass and camera for 1500 so I'm thinking about it.

Haven't noticed anything buggy so far. Maps works great. Thats the best part of this head unit is you get navigation without having to pay a premium for GPS or wire in the antenna. I have a Spotify account so use that and the Music app. Car Toys has the head unit for $599 with a free backup camera and you can find the parking brake bypass on Amazon for $17.99 so your looking at $1,368 for everything.

Thanks, this is what I am considering -- I now have an 06 997.1 with Bose and the Dension/BT. My plan would be to remove the Dension and go with the Nav-TV and Alpine Car Play unit. A few questions

- are you happy with sound quality?
- is the touch screen easy to use -- I will miss having a volume knob and I know some screens work better than others. Any problems there? Is the CarPlay interface as easy as the Phone to use?
- what is the brake bypass for? can you not put in a Maps destination or something without it?
- where did you put the USB connection for the phone -- center console or glove box?
- any other quirks?

1) Definitely! The sound quality has improved immensely

2) Touchscreen is easy to use although I miss having a knob as well since I'm having to adjust volume between highways and residential roads. CarPlay is extremely easy to use especially with Siri.

3) To access settings, the parking brake needs to be set with foot off the brake pedal. Not a big deal, but this alleviates that by a small coin sized unit that replicates the parking brake signal.

4) My center console was out because I had it wrapped in leather by "Classic Leather 9"(which I also highly recommend : ). I ran the cable under my console to the rear tray that is open. I didn't want to put it in the glove box or the center console because I thought I might wear out the latches opening and closing all the time. I have heard this unit has a wireless chip and eventually CarPlay will be wireless. I would recommend this and put it where the 12V outlet is by the passenger feet.

5) No real quirks I can think of. Very happy with the install
