Try this hearing test:

http://www.freemosquitoringtones.org/

If you are older or have been around a lot of noise (races etc.)
your hearing is probably shot anyway.
Save money- don't fall for the big $$$ cables...
The first website is thoroughly useless and a waste of storage space.

As for the hearing test ... I wont' bother. Many many years ago I had exceptional hearing for both level and high frequency discrimination, but much like my eyesight (legally blind....what chart on the wall...what wall), my hearing is pretty much shot.

There is physics behind "cable break-in"? Must be quantum or something yet to be discovered

I break in my speaker cables by running 100 watt light bulbs with them

LTC can you comment more about the weaknesses of that cable website? as a layman, when i read this article:

http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/whatwiredoes.htm

I feel like I am much better informed about some of the basic problems wires have to overcome in order to do a good job. But you mentioned that site is a waste of server space. Is the article I linked to innacurate? Can you post a better link where I can learn about the fundamentals of what makes cables effective/innefective?

I am merely at a loss as to what is being broken in by such a simple burn in circuit.

This has piqued my interest and serves as a relaxing diversion, as I search the web and read what has been written.
I should hook you up with my brother-in-law he is an electrical engineer for Cisco although he started with Dynamicsoft and VoIP was his field we discussed this extensively with his father and knows a lot about it.

Of course we aren't even discussing the fact that all gear is affected by whatever the household current decides to offer on any given occasion coupled with interference caused by other things in the house or nearby. Getting your household current under control and your room isolated is first and foremost, otherwise it really takes the wind out of anything a good cable can/cannot do.

Well, I can't find anything on cable burn (but I did enjoy the link previously posted describing the effect of insulator charging), so I'll drag out that old chestnut "The Essex Echo" for fun. This always gets a good argument going with the "Home Depot extension cord speaker cable" crowd.

The Essex Echo

Maybe a room such as this warrants the big $$$
cables, but most installations do well with a lot less...

I just wear my aluminum foil hat for the first 12.75 listening sessions.
After that it sounds fine.

PS. I also wrap my ***** in aluminum foil too, but admittedly, this is for my own amusement and does not effect the listening experience.

Put the tin foil in the freezer for a few hours first. You'll thank me later.

That is what the Richard Gray is for.

That is why you should power your listening room via solar panels and a bank of batteries, powering a dedicated/isolated inverter.

You should also enclose your listening room in a Farraday shield/screen room, to provide radiated immunity (having eliminated conducted immunity with the isolated PV/inverter installation).

Without diverging too far into the weeds, I am just going to go off and try and see if there is any engineering analysis/research/measurements into 'cable burn-in'.

I will report back if I find anything interesting....

It was just oversimplified and extremely generic, almost high school science fair in nature....in other words, boring.

I have the Pole Pig for the front end stuff-but use a separate commercial grade power supply to regulate and maintain current from the house to the system. It has dual meters-one that shows whats coming in and one that shows what goes out. You would be surprised to see how much the voltage fluctuates coming out of the wall!
My phono preamp (ASR) is battery powered.

This is like a Mobius loop of technical insanity.
I had never heard of Richard Gray, so I googled.

I read this and had to stop...
http://www.richardgrayspowercompany.com/power.html

Power Isolation/Purification

AV Grade Magnetic Isolation, that creates a brand new (dedicated) AC delivery system, clean and free from any electrical pollution headroom

Electrical pollution headroom? Please make this insanity stop.
I can see where PSRR would be an issue, but putting some iron and a few passive components in a box?

The one eyed man is a leader in the valley of the blind.
