As I understand it the stock amp (hi-fi version) on the 996 are fairly old now and can benefit from being updated. In that case if replace the stereo with a high power output like Sony DSX-GS80, would it be better to bypass the stock amp or would I still benefit from connecting to it? Tech spec says it has 4 x 100 W (45 W RMS) power output with two-ohm speaker load options.

I'm not too experienced with electronics but it seems there's enough information online to tackle this as a weekend project.
