CD2 production question
Can someone confirm that the Porsche changed the supplier of the CD2 head unit back in the nineties? I heard that they started with Becker and then moved to Alpine in early 1994. The exterior of the units remained the same. Thanks

All the info I have states the CR-1's & CD-2's were all made by Alpine. They coupled them with amps by Blaupunkt. AFAIK they were installed in 92-94 964's and 93 928GTS's you would know better about the rest. IMO the worlds worst head units. Alpine aftermarket products of the day were far superior. But who listens to music in their cars anyway. ;) PS: the CD-2 I have on the shelf from my 93 928GTS was manufactured by Alpine. |
My 90 928 GT had a CD-1 from the factory as did my Targa. In 90 the units were definitely made by Alpine. Unfortuntely the CD mechanism on them stops working and they’re pretty much useless after that since they can’t be repaired. I do wonder though if anyone is installing new internals into the shells to allow for Bluetooth. |
CD-2, CR-1 & CDC-1 are Alpine.
