HDMI 2.1 - 8K, 10K capable
 

I will be the first to admit that I am just barely above the level of a total newbie when it comes to audio/video in the home theater settings but I do take a keen interest to it while I build some real world experience as well. With a 4K TV and a newly purchased Xbox One X running in full 4K, I feel that the market is finally starting to really support HDR/4K resolution with all kinds of movies, games and other media shot or designed natively to take advantage of the increased resolution and color output.

Then I read about the HDMI 2.1 cable that is soon to be released supporting uncompressed 4K at 120fps with 12 bit color range, 48Gb/s transfer rate and the ability to display native 8K at 30fps and 10K at 30fps.

Just as it seems we are coming around to fully supporting 4K, and this cable will no doubt aid in that process, do you think that we will start seeing video/tv equipment start pushing forward already towards higher resolutions in the very near future? More so than the resolution ability, the ability of 12 bit color sampling is something that I feel will drastically influence all the top TV makes to make 12 bit color panels commercially available soon in effort to be the first to come out with "the most visually stunning HDR yet!"

I guess that is the way the technology market goes though, just when you thought you have top of the line advanced equipment, something comes out the next day that makes it technically obsolete.

What are your guys thoughts? I for one try to separate myself from all the newest stuff and be happy with what I have for as long as possible (we all know how that goes hah)

You can look for something in this article (https://www.bestadvisor.com/wireless-hdmi). Personally, I have enough and 7.1. My Nyrius ARIES Pro blow off my roof with the surround sound. The most important thing is no cables and high-quality sound on all supporting devices.

HDMI 2.1 should make a major difference in the way that 4K and greater resolution images, along with HDR, are shown. That said, in order to realize the benefit of HDMI 2.1, the display manufacturers must A) adopt HDMI 2.1 input, B) move from 10 bit to 12 bit color, and C) accept Dolby Vision signals through HDMI. None now does, as far as I know.
