M5 E39...Trumpet options...

I admit I am a bit of a newbie M5 owner, and this may have been covered before somewhere...But..

If the MAF sensors are no longer in use for whatever reason (e.g. an AlphaN install) what reason is there to have the engine cover on like this other than the air filters for the intakes? If there is no reason, or a bypassable reason, can the 'velocity stacks' as some call them (or ITB trumpets) be changed for modifying the torque and behaviour of the engine, then mapped to suit? Of course with a different air filter system...or is it a no go?

yes, they can be changed/modified.

running a street car without air filtration is silly, to put it politely.

Have you ever seen leaves or dead bugs in the engine bay? That is a reason

As for the trumpets, as far as I know they can be modified with not too much affect.

Oh wow, thanks.

Of course air filters should be used.

I guess the modded pipework is for oil breather hoses?

Seen many threads on this but not much evidence in any gains. Anyone have any reports or a worthy street able option?
I think dinan for a short time had Some aftermarket stacks that went with bigger mafs and intakes.

I was thinking the same exact thing. lol

And I love the disclaimer you post before everything you write now. It's hilarious. And that statement was not made sarcastically.

Yep that's them. Soooo expensive though. They look shorter compared to factory pic above so I'm assuming they are tuned for high end and will shift the torque curve higher in the rpm range supported by there at peak figure higher than stock. Something to think about for the OP. everything is a compromise.
