Coolant Pipe Issue Struck-Now What?
Good morning! New member here who just pick up a 997.1 Turbo and just experienced a coolant pipe coming undone. The car is now at a shop to have the pipes replaced and pinned down. I now have a couple of questions:
1. How much would one expect to pay for the engine to be dropped? (I'm being quoted $4500)
2. What would you recommend to be replaced while the engine is dropped?
Thanks for all of your help and glad to be in good company here at Rennlist.

Pretty sure I've heard people say they paid around $2500-3000 total for the coolant pipe job...

If that's 4500 for it to just be dropped. As in labor only. I would be picking the car up and taking it else where. That is if you have that option. Just for a engine R&R it should be around 15-20hrs. When really it should only take someone 10 hrs to just remove and replace the engine.

I feel your pain and went through the same issue 1600 miles after purchase.
First went to the Porsche dealer who sold me the vehicle . They wanted $5k for the one pipe fix and hose replacement . Loaded it on the flatbed and put it in the garage after talking to manager and got it down to 3200.
Researched for a week and took it to an expensive indy who does a lot of race prep and paid big bucks by the time it was over. They wanted 4800 for engine drop and welding all fittings , including replacing the plastic ones with aluminum. While they were there did plugs, fuel filter , trans service , shift cable , power steering hose , and had my stock exhaust modified .
Bill was $10k . If I had to do it over , I would shop around and research more places.
I now have a lift , and if the fitting that blew was one of the easy ones to get to, i'd pin it myself.
What area are you in?

The $4500 is to drop the engine and replace and pin all of the coolant hoses. I'm in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and while the indy I have the car at is competent, the quote seems on the high end. I think I'll have the motor mounts, belt, plugs, and coils replaced while it's out.
Laminator, how did you modify your stock exhaust?

While the engine is out it is a good time to evaluate your clutch options. Also I would replace the water pump. It's only a few hundred bucks more and can fail. Would also do the fuel filter. I had my plugs, coils, fuel filter, main serpentine belt, clutch and pressure plate, and RMS replaced along with all my coolant pipes pinned and the plastic F hoses replaced with the metal ones. I also had bigger fuel injectors and aftermarket turbo inlet pipes installed. Total for all of it was around 11-12k.

Von Rich - I had the top of the mufflers cut out and they removed the baffles . Probably same restriction and back pressure due to pipe diameter and cats, but sounds a lot better. Does drone at 2500 rpms though. I am now saving for free flowing EP1 or similar exhaust . Should have left the stock one alone so I could swap back when its time to sell.

Paid $5800 inc parts for RnR, coolant pipes pinned, sharkwerks pipes fitted, electric pump for coolant to turbos replaced, and all plastic lines running over engine to be replaced while in there.

If you replace all the rubber hoses, idlers, belts, water pump, o-rings, plastic elbows, plugs, coils you quickly hit 2-3k in parts alone, even at a strong discount. That does not include the pin or weld labor. Welding is much more labor intensive, as so much had to be removed.
The drop itself is not that expensive.
