I bought a set of the Zunsport grilles. I haven't had any luck installing them. For you who have them installed, how did you get the side ones on? I've tried all different ways to get the "long attachment" clip on, but cannot.
I had to push hard to get the grill in far enough so the hook will catch the lip when the grill springs back when I release it.
You also might have to bend the clip slightly down (outward) so it catches the lip, if partially installed you can likely slip a small flat screwdriver through the grill to gently push the clip lower.
I was scheduled to take my 997.2 tt to Sebring this past weekend and the mere thought of a 7 hour road trip plus the 'hopeful' PCA track laps made me pretty sure I wanted to protect the radiators. After reading what people found in their radiators, or how they'd gotten beat up/sprung leaks was all I needed to hear.
I resisted removing the bumpers like most of us do, but it seemed the most worthwhile way to clean and then attach new screens. I decided to go the DIY route on screens.
Pulling the bumper was fairly straightforward, some interest clips used (youtube has some great demos) but I can pre-caution you: keep an eye on 'how' the bumper and liners overlap certain areas, how tabs fit into little pockets and the like. Reinstallation took me some time.
But this was required! I pulled out handfulls of stuff out of my inlets. Acorns, gravel, feathers, pine straw, two water bottle caps, and a lot of wet filth. I cut the screens and they fit neatly enough using zip ties. They're snug enough, though perhaps not as much as the real manufacturer's units. After my trip - and we did get on the track for a whole 3 laps - they'd done their job. An interstate accident put piles of broken glass on the interstate which was of course low, heavy, and sharp which are 3 things you don't want rushing at your delicate radiators.
Here are the pics. Forgive the dirt as this was post-trip. Oh, and I saved the paper templates for a 997.2 turbo if anyone wants me to send them at no charge. They worked for me and are a great instant start that you may want to tweak to your tastes.
I have not used his front grill products but his fitted cayman side intake covers are an amazing piece of craftsmanship.
He was also very helpful with custom orders or patterns if you wanted to make a piece with overhang for screws (or what not) if you were wanting to attach from the backside of the bumper.
Zunsport on my 997.1 TT. I used a thin flathead screwdriver with tape for protection to lightly get the catches into place. No issue so far, although I did have to cut a notch out for my radar detector...
