how hard to replace front spoiler lip on 997 turbo
Hi all,
I have bought one of the $130 replacement lips. what do I have to do to replace? it came with 2 screws. It looks like there are a number of wedge like extrusions on top. does it just wedge in or do you have to disassemble?
thanks
Mark

Very easy to replace it. If you can turn a screw and know how to put together LEGO, you will have no problem. The wedges replicate the wedges found on the OEM spoiler piece and goes through the slits beneath the bumper. The 2 screws may not be enough to securely hold the spoiler to the bumper, but that can be remedied with getting 2 additional screws to securely hold the spoiler to bumper. You will need to drill small holes in the bumper where the spoiler wraps around the wheel well arch to attach the screws.

If I remember rightly, to remove, tilt the lip up when pulling away from the bumper. Push the new one in directly to attach, and screw in at the end.
The cheap after market lip has clips that are sometimes roughly cut, and may need to be trimmed to make it sit flush.

Screws on each corner the rest of the tabs pop in and out. However they don't always pop in and out easy. I found them to be a pain. Two of the tabs would have rather broke than slid out easy. So be prepared for a couple tabs to not go easily. tabs on the front should be the easiest. They have clips on the back but you can't reach them, so they will take some wiggling and pulling.

I just did this last weekend. Was a 15 min start to finish, very easy! Remove screws on side, easy to get to, pop out the clips, and push the new one in. I ordered a Porsche one, was cheap and fit perfectly.

Front lip removal
I had to actually tilt the lip down on some of the tabs and use a right-angle pick to depress/disengage the locking tabs. The edge that attaches to the car is actually in a channel, so tilting up or down will not release the locking tabs all the time. This task was a PITA, and I hope this tidbit of detail helps.

Easy job for me. The Porsche OEM lip snaps in and comes out as intended. I swapped to an aftermarket part that has more of a splitter shape to it and I used a dremel to clean up the clips so it snapped all the way in and fit nicely. I've replaced two thus far and the most time spent has been 30 minutes at most.

I removed my OEM aero front lip recently for painting, and had to use a trim tool to depress the clips to get it out. It also doesn't clip in properly on the second to last slot on each end. Surprised that fitment isn't much better than the $100 eBay knock offs.

about a 1/4 of a glass or red.

The cheap one seems to have complaints about not fitting right. Should I get the OEM?

the cheap one is fine if...
Amazon special (note GT2 side skirts)
- you bust yours off often (I drag mine reguarly because of the incline of my drive or it scrapes on the ferry depending on the tides)
- you like the look of the aero version because that is the one it is a copy of ($1250) and that in my opinion looks much better than the standard stock one.
- the plastic can be a tad glossy but nobody notices.
- it is a consumable (the cheapest part on your car).. I order mine in pairs.
- the fit is fine but it will pop out on the seams after an encounter with "said" ferry... simply pop it back in.
