K40 is good, v1 can be nicely hidden hard wired.

I have a K40 in a previous 997, I personally do not like built in systems. I've done built in once or twice, but I have always and will always rely on a V1 or similar setup, hardwired and installed with a blendview mount.

It is far easier to send in a V1 unit in for upgrade vs having to replace all the built in components. Plus I am not a big fan or drilling, cutting or splicing any wires. Even with the V1 hardwired, I tap into the fuse box with an add-a-fuse so no wires have to even be spliced!

^ agree with this, although I use a 9500ix instead.. "hardwired" with the wire tucked under the headliner and down the A-pillar to the fuse box.. AND I can take the detector with me if I want.. I just leave the mount in the car.

I have a K40 Calibre from a previous owner and it serves its purpose. It does me little good here in Germany (it only picks up mobile speed cameras and is also illegal so I need to be careful with it) but the install is clean and nearly 100% reversible. The only "permanent" part is the small holes drilled into the plastic next to the steering column for the front and rear LEDs

Previous car I had a built in escort 8500ci - cost over 1k installed. Sold the car and the detector went with it, didn't think the labor to uninstall and reinstall was worth it.

So for my 997 I went with hardwired escort 360 and I purchased a mount to keep it up high near the headliner. Escort also has their smart cord for hardwiring where you can mount a mute button closer to your driving position and independent of where the detector is mounted. So far so good.

I use a Passport Max 2, mounted under the rear view mirror with a Blendmount. I used it in my 997 TT, and now in my 991 TTS. I also have the power cord tucked under the a-pillar, tapping into the fuse box. The Escort/Passport products work very well to eliminate false alerts from radar cruise control systems, and from traffic flow monitoring systems. The app is also nice; it's similar to Waze, allowing you to benefit from the alerts of other Passport users nearby.

How do you like the 360? Have considered upgrading, but figured I'd wait 'till the first few revisions of firmware were issued to deal with any issues..

The arrows are nice, the range seems to be pretty good with how high I have it mounted.

It still seems to get a lot of false K band alerts from other cars lane change assist etc, I will probably end up turning K and X off because those aren't used in my area AFAIK.

Have you turned on TSR? That should help with the false alerts.

Is that not on by default?

+1 on the Max hardwired with the Blendmount.

I've had mine for a few years now, and it rivals any other detector out there. It's saved my bacon once or twice, which means it pays for itself.

Check our the Vortex radar site. He's a radar detector guru and has loads of reviews on his site. Personally, I had been using the V1 hardwired for 15 years until I tried a Radenso XP Pro. I now have the Radenso unit hardwired into two different cars and only one V1 at this point. I prefer the Radenso to the V1. I've not tried higher end solutions like Stinger VIP which seems to be the best out there.

Not sure, but it's worth checking.

V1 user for many years - currently have one hardwired in my TT in a Blendmount, and another one I keep portable for other vehicles. I do shut off X and K or the thing drives me bonkers.
