I sold my Guards Red/black 09 TT cab 6-speed today and if you recall an earlier thread I purchased (although I haven't seen it yet) a 2011 Speed Yellow/black heavily optioned TTS.

Is the 2011 TTS coupe PDK that much better than my 09 TT cab 6-speed? Before I pull the trigger on the 2011 I would like to hear your opinions. Aside from the 3.6L Mezger, 6-speed and 480hp vs. the 3.8L DFI, PDK and 530hp what are the differences is ride, handling, driver engagement, handling and etc.? Your opinions count so please be honest. Thanks

Congrats on selling your car. I haven't driven a 997.2 TTS but I'd imagine you will not be disappointed.

The cabs have slightly softer springs. The mezger is more raw and "rumbly".

I have found it very difficult to find a 2009, 997.1 Turbo with a 6-speed manual, PCCB system, Sport Chrono Package Turbo and Sport Bucket Seats. Wish I had known about your 997.1 Turbo, I would have bid on it.
If I do not find a 2009, 997.1 Turbo, as specked above, I would opt for a 997.2 Turbo with PDK. It is a matter of $$$. Porsche first used the PKK in 1963. I have found the PDK faster at track events than the 6-speed manual transmission with engine revolution speed matching. The PCCB system is awesome, and I have had zero brake issues during three day track sessions, NO FADING at end of day. Newer is always better, as lap times on Nürburgring and the Nordschleife prove.

I went from a .1 6-speed to a .2 PDK. I wouldn't say one is over the top better but Porsche did improve on some things.
First thing I noticed is the car felt newer and more buttoned up. Suspension and steering felt tighter and more direct. If you're into having something faster then you'll also notice that right away. Faster in all facets.
Of course this all comes with a trade-off.. you'll lose some driver engagement and involvement with the PDK but at the same time, it's a pretty awesome transmission if you're looking for something fast. Almost a necessary evil to keep up with or smoking modern exotics that also utilize a dual clutch.

The .1 was more old school and analog. It had a more raw feel and sound while the .2 feels more refined, modern and newer. No wrong choice there and that's all personal preference.

Only right answer to me is to own both!

The 997.1TT to 997.2TT is tit for tat.. The PDK offers blistering performance. But.

You might want to look at the 991.1TT platform. It moves you into the next gerneration. The 991TT is the next leap that would consider the next upgrade "path"

If a old school "drivers" car is a need. You can pick up a Cayman, or to fill the need besides the 991Turbo.

My TTS will be here tomorrow. I drove both before my purchase and felt the difference was worth the extra $XX,XXX. Both are great cars, but just going from an average spec. 997.2TT to a base 997.2TTS seemed like a notable difference.

I've had both. the .2 TTS is better...worth the delta better ??? IDK really but it's a great car and I've got no complaints.

I actually like the PDK in the turbo quite a bit more than I thought that I would. I've got a GT car with a proper box in it for the days I feel the need for that extra driver involvement.

personally I did like the 997.2 better when I drove it because it just felt tighter with some better materials and the PDK was super easy. Is it a bit faster, yes. But nothing a butt dyno can tell.

End of day if i want to row gears the 997.2 isn't better because they mostly don't exist

I'd 3rd Southpaw's response having driven .1TT and .2TT(6) and .2TTS(PDK) extensively.
For me the preference would always be the slightly more raw .1 but the .2 in PDK guise is tremendously competent and so much more equipped to be a GT car. My observation is the changes in gearbox are more impactful than the extra ~5% power and DFI vs. mezger. Pick your weapon, they are awesome in any trim...

I know it doesn't help the OP but if I had the means I would have a modded 997.1TT 6speed (as I do) and a 991TTS (which sadly I don't). I had the fortune to borrow my buddy's for a few days last month - it takes the whole GT car aspect to another level. Comfortable and devistatingly quick when it needs to be but in a very neutral package and with all the toys... Champagne problem...
