Default Radio Control ***** Now "Sticky"

Well, this is annoying. I have a 2011 TTS. Over the last year both rubbery ***** on the radio have become sticky or tacky to the touch, as if something has happened to the rubber compound they are made of. Car is always garaged, so I don't think this is due to temperature issues, just age.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or replaced them?

Common issue on both the 997.1 and 99.2, enough that Suncoast lists replacements:

997.1:

997.2:

Newer 997.2 plastics are better, but still exhibit some of the same issues over time.

I just picked up my 997.1tt last week and the first thing I noticed upon coming into contact with the radio is that the right side **** was very sticky and almost seemed covered in slime. My first instinct was "man the previous owner must've eaten a lot of Cheetos while driving around" but I'm glad to know it's the ***** that are actually faulty.

Hand cream, interior cleaners, just about anything will make them sticky. Just wipe the new ones with a damp cloth, or dry vacuum.

Is there a trick to it or do the buttons just pop off with a little force? I have the same problem.

My climate control up/down temp rocker switch is also beginning to look worn. Has anyone been able to find a replacement switch? I asked while at the dealership and they said the whole module needed to be changed, which seemed like overkill for such a small annoyance.

^ THey just pop on/off with a little force.

I had my AC module replaced under CPO due to the buttons having worn lettering.. I just asked the dealer when I took it in and they replaced it no questions asked..

Easy-Off oven cleaner on a microfiber towel will clean up the sticky parts. If there is printing or a decal of some sort on the black sticky part, rub gently.
