Exactly. Feels worse than normal this year. Some government/ mafia cabal must be getting paid per ton of salt. Seems overzealous. Perhaps it's my perception and I certainly don't want more accidents, but a less offensive alternative must exist.

I'm heartened by the environmental organizations championing less environmentally disruptive options, like sand or ash. I'm certain the atrocious road conditions are exacerbated by salt as well. Lowering the freezing point, allowing liquid water to penetrate deeper into the road material before freezing, thus expanding and blowing the road apart.

I'm all about safety, but there must be a better way.
