+1 to AC hydraulic jack. We are the U.S. distributor of the jack.

Specifically, the DK13HLQ jack is so well designed, it's as if a sports car enthusiast sat down with a blank piece of paper and sketched out his 'dream jack.' The unit comes with a quick-lift pedal, it has a super low-clearance and gives you a really great lifting range. You can view it in action at our video below:

And, if you're looking for great jack stands, be sure to check out ESCO at the link above where the AC hydraulic jack is at. We are offering 10% off the ESCO jack stands now until the end of the month. More info HERE if interested. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Harbor freight aluminum racing jackstands and 1.5 ton small aluminum jack.

I use mine daily now for 4 years with no problems. The original version was better the new one is fine but not as light.

Another nice feature is something like 2-3 pumps to full lift

Floor jacks are such a PITA.
I'm over crawling around like a 20 year old!
So a mate down the road is building me a decent, properly made pit in my garage. My roofs to low for a hoist, and I'm not building another garage.
So after thinking about it for years we are doing it.
This'll have reinforced concrete, lights, shelves, power and be built so it doesn't collapse and crush me lol.
Then I'll use some good quality bottle jacks to pop each corner up.

Happy to post progress pics if anyones interested.
Oh yeh, they're also illegal here as well.

A longer jack would remove this need but isn't much of a hassle.

Recommend Esco stands and getting the Porsche centric jack pads off eBay.
This is my exact same setup as well!

I'd love to see what you're doing. I too have a low roof and hadn't really thought of going *down* instead of up. I'd ask you how much you think this will cost you, but we all know that everything there is 10X the price here

hahaha, ain't that the truth! But to do everything except the electrical, the price is only $1500.00, maybe up to $1800. But this is for a decent pit that will get well used.
It's only some heavy boxing and concrete really. And a lot of digging! Not enough room to get a small bobcat in either. It'll be worth it though.

Might put a beer fridge and TV in there yet, and a bed

I had the harbor freight / pittsburgh jack that some have mentioned. it literally broke the first time i used it.

I returned it and spent the money to get a good jack. I have two arcan 3.5 floor jacks and they have never failed me.

Agree 100% about not crawling around like I did when I was younger. I opted for the lift, but you'll have much the same capability with the pit. I tell people the lift is like your first floor jack, once you get used to having it, you can't imagine not.

Now regardless of whether you have access to a pit or lift, sometimes you still need a darned jack!
