Thumbs up 997.1 to 997.2 Rear Conversion w/PDC

Hi

So I am getting ready to do the 997.1 to 997.2 rear conversion as I want the clear taillights. My car which is a 997.1 has the optional parking sensors. After speaking with Suncoast Porsche their only answer is they'll sell me a bumper with PDC holes but I have to retrofit/glue my existing sensors to it myself as the 7.2 sensors brackets are different. Option #2 is to code out the PDC which I prefer not to.

I did manage to find a writeup where someone had a 7.1 that did the 7.2 upgrade with PDC but he/she glued the pre-existing sensors into the new brackets as well. I want the finished work to look 100% factory and clean so I asked about buying 7.2 sensors and was told the harness was different.

Theoretically if I buy a 997.2 PDC harness with 997.2 parking sensors with a 997.2 rear bumper would the PDC portion be plug and play? Does anyone know? Suncoast says they have no clue, my local dealership has no clue, someone has to know!

Can someone chime in on this?

i would stick with the method where you unglue and glue the 7.1 sensor brackets into your 7.2 bumper. the last thing you want to do is trying to retrofit the technology differences (if any) between the .1 + .2 parking sensors, in addition to it's related modules/

if done carefully, the finished look will look great and oem.

To update everyone, I bought new 7.2 PDC sensors and 7.2 harness, plugged it in and the PDC would be stuck beeping. Although I started off knowing the physical PDC module was different, the older module won't work with the newer sensor even though the new harness plugs into the sensor and existing wiring loom. The actual module inside the car has a completely different pin configuration and number of wires going to it. I think changing the module is opening up a can of worms.

I ended up buying a used 997.1TT rear bumper and taking the brackets off that bumper and transferring it over to the 997.2TT rear bumper as I didn't want to butcher my .1 bumper. Combined with the .1 sensors and .1 harness, everything works great now.

Two things I should note, not on most write ups.

You can use the 997.2TT heatshield so you do not have to cut your stock 997.1TT heatshield. It is a direct bolt on.

The plastic guides on each side of the rear quarters the bumper clips onto/screws are different too. I am surprised nobody mentioned this on their conversion threads. 997.2 are direct bolt on.

Noticed you completed the look with the 997.2 headlights too. Was that plug & play?

Nope, you need to code to dynamic lights.

I really really love the look of the OE .2 tails, looks awesome! I plan on buying the kit from Suncoast and will retrofit the PDC sensors. Id like to go euro bumper also, wonder if Suncoast can source it.
