Default Just changed O2 sensors and now CEL :( - Help

Guys,

Hope you can help me out here. I've had bad pre-cat O2 sensors for months and I finally got around to changing them today. What a job.... exhausted.

After the O2s were installed the car seemed to have a better idle, exhaust quieted down, start up seems smoother and the power and turbo boost sound seemed to come back. Happy as a stuffed pig!

Until... I get home and the CEL pops on again

Something is up with my boost and in gears 2-6 just a little bit of throttle sends the turbos spooling like crazy, looking at the gauge the boost doesn't seem to be going up a ton, but I hear tons of air from the turbo. Seems like it's coming mostly from the passenger side. I really don't want to push the car for fear that the turbo goes through the trunk or something worse.

I did have to adjust the muffler connection to the exhaust pipes today since they were crooked. Not sure if that's causing air leakage and the P2279 code....

Any thoughts?

CEL codes:
P1095 (01/05 - 01/05) - FUEL RAIL PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE MALFUNCTION

P2279 (0/5 - 0/5) - rouble code P2279 indicates that an air leak has occurred on the "metered" side of the intake manifold. There is more air entering the intake manifold than the mass airflow or MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor would suggest.

Some photos

Bushings look shot, any recommendations on new ones?

new clamps for tail pipes, old ones were rotted and had to be cut offf

old crappy exhaust pipe clamps

can see some leakage in the exhaust tail pipe connection with mufflers and cutting the clamp off

finally dremel made it

replaced pre cat sensors

took these things off, made so much easier

pretty clean intercoolers, moth didn't make it

BBI set up

Are you sure a boost hose didn't come off the turbo? Have you done a leak test lately?

I just installed gt2rs Ics and did 02 sensors as well.

I went for a blast and heard a big thud and immediately knew a boost hose has popped off

Thankfully it was the lower hose so did not have to take the bumper off again.

My wheels are spinning in second gear now with my umw tune and gmg exhaust. The power increase is nuts and quite scary

Did you replace the pre cat 02's I.e blue ones ?

Or did the do the post cats too

Might I add that when the hose was just pushed back in for the drive home the engine would sputter and the die when at idle. I babied it home jacked it up and clicked the hose back in place

All issues resolved

yeah i'll have to take the bumper off for that... have to find time this week to diagnose...

if anyone can think of anything else that would be a huge help. Definitely sounds like something is loose. Was running like a champ then odd whistling

The tops can be checked from under the hood. Just tug on the aftercooler side and then the Y pipe side. You may also want to get a mirror to check the inside of the lowers where they connect to the turbo outlet. I have had it where they look ok but the clamp missed on the inside. Also check the recirc line and make sure it didn't pull out of the rubber line. To do a boost test you have to pull both hoses off the turbo outlets. plug one and pressurize the other one. You can search boost leak test to see what guys are using. I think rock has a diy for it.

Definitely something is not secured properly. Trace hoses from turbo to intercooler, up to Y-pipe, to throttle body. Then connections from air filter back down intercooler.

Fixed! Had to take off the bumper and driver side intercooler to fix the valve that wasn't closed completely to the Y pipe. PITA but glad it was something simple. Appreciate the feedback helped a headache diagnosis. Back to tip top condition. Fall in love all over again. Amazing how screwy the car acted with the O2 sensor issue.

Those pre-cat O2 sensors are pretty critical sensors. They are what the DME relies upon to know it is fueling the engine properly. Those and the post-cat sensors. (The DME likes to see the converters are performing up to spec.)

An O2 sensor fault that sticks around is a good sign that at least the sensor and its mate on the other side should be replaced and really for the sake of good engine fueling all 4 should be replaced.
