Default TPMS questions

Hi,

New owner of a 2009 997tt here. I have two sets of wheels, and the seller has agreed to mount and ship the summer tires to me but I need a set of TPMS.

Through my research I have narrowed it down to two different TPMS part numbers:

99760602101
99760602120

Now the second I would assume is the update of the first so I was just going to go with this as this is the equivalent of 99760602120:

http://www.oewheelsllc.com/TPMS-Sens...-Sensors-SET_5

Will this work? Or should I go for the 'older' code? You can order either set ...

Thanks

Tyler

Be careful with the OE wheel stuff. Some people have had good results but many more have not. I had bad results with them. Mine reset almost every time I drive the car. The 2009 has two different ones they could have come with and both are the same htz. If you want the correct number regardless of where you buy them call a dealer and give them your vin#. They will give you the oem your car came with and you can match them from there. It's not just a matter of the wrong sensor cost but the cost of dismounting and balancing if they're wrong. Also the odds of scratching a rim from mounting and dismounting so many times.
Cheers

I have the sensors from OE Wheels on my 2008 turbo. They are not as reliable as the OE sensors. They usually work, but they often reset and give me "flat tyre" warnings while driving until the computer recognizes them again. When it comes time to replace them, I plan to use OEM sensors.

What's the ballpark price I should expect from the dealer? I may try the OE this time because the tires are already off the wheels and the labour is free.

You could buy the OE sensors from SOnnen ( http://sonnenporscheoemparts.com/) for quite a bit cheaper than your local dealer will charge you.. Maybe your local dealer will price-match?

99760602101 - $125 each
99760602120 - $95 each

I *believe* the 09 turbo uses the first one listed, but of course check with the dealer for sure..

You light fire to money when you buy OE sensors, imo. There are multiple threads on the subject. Also multiple options that work for 75% less money.

Fingers crossed Tire Rack sent me the correct ones for my '09TT (which are due to arrive tomorrow). They did not ask for my VIN. Swapping wheels and tires and after 7 years its time for fresh ones. I'll report back if I have any issues. $81 each plus $8 each for new stems. I doubt they are OEM.

Forgive me for my two cents but I am like everyone else I guess.... Having had nothing but trouble with non factory TPMS sensors until the dealer figured out that they WERE after market sensors and replaced them all under warranty.

Why anyone would be hearing all the horror stories and still paying Tire Rack 400 bones for after market sensors and "crossing their fingers" is beyond me.

It is possible to disable the TPMS system as well. You will not have a light or any warning message.

There is a solution! Or, you could disable the ignition, solving ALL the problems with the car?

Got my Tire Rack sensors and, as I hoped, they are made by Huf. FWIW, Huf makes the OEM sensors, so I imagine they know how to make them correctly. Also FYI, Beru used to make the OEM sensors, but Beru was bought out by Huf and they are now one and the same. Will have them installed in the next several days, and will update.

Nothing is wrong with the Huf sensors and they do work correctly. However they only have a battery life of about 5 years or so. With that being said every 5 years you need to spend another $400 on replacement sensors. You could easily disable the system and never have to worry about it again way less. A PIWIS is required to disable the system, you also need someone with a PIWIS that knows how to disable the system, and someone that is willing to do so.

I like having the sensors, they have tipped me off to a problem a few times, including a not so slow leak not long ago at night when I wouldn't have noticed and was a block from getting on the freeway onramp with 5 miles til the next offramp.

My 7 y/o OEM sensors still working fine, but since I'm changing wheels and tires, seems like a good time to put fresh ones in.

I paid about $170 for a set of four that have worked flawlessly for a couple of years so far. fwiw

The set I just had replaced had been installed two years ago and the previous owner claims they worked perfectly until just before he traded the car in after 1.5 years. As a side note, the Porsche Dealer replaced the tires but not the sensors while they owned it for a month! The sensors all worked too but constantly required the system to be reset as well.
