Default No turbo whine

So winter in Cincinatti and can't take out the car so fixing things and looking at stuff on the Internet. I've noticed that a lot of 997's have turbos you can hear whine, pretty loud as a matter of fact. Mine are VERY quiet. I can't imagine they did something just to make the turbos whine louder so what gives????

BTW, mine is stock except a two can Tubi exhaust. Besides sounding better after the "new" exhaust, turbos sound the same.

When I purchased my car, it had a Kline exhaust and Fabspeed intake. The in-cabin symphony was awesome and had tons of turbo spool and recirculation noise. I recently reverted to a stock setup and now I really hear very little turbo...much more engine and exhaust.

PS: I am selling the Fabspeed setup - I wanted OEM reliability.

I have a Cargraphic loud exhaust with muffler by-pass valves and when they are open the turbo spool-sound is very noticeable, not so much otherwise.

I don't notice it too much on my stock turbo either. I occasionally hear it when going through a tunnel or driving close to a barrier. The most prevalent sound during acceleration is induction noise.

I agree. It may be "ricer" but one of my favorite parts of turbo cars is spool noise and recirc/bov valve noise. Unfortunately my 997 has neither. One thing i am envious of on the 996 and makes me miss my wrxs and dsms of days gone by.

So it would seem that the common thread for the turbo whine is a big decrease in exhaust backpressure.

Also I'm not the only wwho likes that sound...

I have a GMG with cats ... the turbo whistle sounds great - remove the cats and it gets better ...
