997 Conversion to wheel Central locking system
Has anybody converted their wheel to a central locking system.
Porsche has a kit but I am unsure if it is a simple conversion kit. Looks like it. It looks more modern like my GT3.

I'm not sure why you would want to do that. It's a fairly expensive deal to convert, and it significantly limits your wheel selection which has a much larger impact on the overall appearance of your vehicle than rather or not it's center lock. YMMV.

Hi
Interesting post! I recall a mainstream auto magazine article that spoke of converting from a central locking system to a 5 lug system (opposite of what you're asking).
The car owner cited many dis-benefits of a central locking system. As I recall, two dis-benefits were; the very high torque settings (aprox 600ft lbs) required and if misaligned, the resulting cross-thread damage could be catastrophic and very costly. Not to mention leaving you stranded.
SideBar: When you see center nuts being used on race cars, they're also using high speed/torque guns. Ever see a race-team crew member cross thread a center nut and then it takes fives guys to get it off? Over torque and you can crack the wheel...under torque and you might lose a wheel (or worse).
Maybe, you can find a wheel that has a faux center nut cover that conceals the lug nuts...or maybe just buy a nicer set of wheels and tires.
Appearance vs. the PITA FACTOR (Pain In The ***) considerations is where I would be at... BTW: I have those about 5 times a day! Ha!!!
Good luck to you..JB

It's a lot of work and money but certainly doable , here is a link for you :

Besides the headache of changing tires, it' would be an extra $2000 plus the cost of any wheel upgrade. I think?

Have CL summer and winter wheels/tires and am fortunate to have a dealer that caters to their customers. I take my TTS in and they switch the wheel/tire combo from one season to the other. The wheels and tires that are removed are cleaned and stored for the next seasonal ritual all for about $60 a time. No other Porsche dealers in the Cincinnati/Dayton area offers this service and it makes the center Locks a non issue. Lets face it, if you get a non fixable flat on the side of the road with any Porsche tire, you need a tow anyway center lock or no. Village Porsche Cincinnati.

I did it, and I'm really happy. I got a good deal on a set of HRE CL90's for $1500 which drove my decision. I found a set of hubs from a GT3 owner who converted, so I bought new locks and bearings and installed them.
Including wheels, I probably have $3800 in the set up. My dealer only charged me the labor rate for bearing swaps to do the work. It's an aesthetic thing, but I'm a fan.
