Default Will you remain true to Porsche?

I'm curious with all the new toys coming out in the same price range... Acura NSX and McLaren 570s, as to how many will not jump to another ship.

I know it's all about the drive, but they look pretty sweet, and can haul ***.

Same price ? My 2009 is +70k ...

The McLaren which I just test drove is 200k out the door ... The acura will be around 140k .....

There is nothing in the 70k price range that will hold up to a 997TT

I'd consider jumping to a mustang gt350 (iff I could get my hands on a second year one without markup). I've also repeatedly considered selling the turbo in favor of separate daily driver and toy cars (say an electric fiat 500 and an Elise).

I am very intrigued with the nsx, but the $ differential would be close to a GT 4 and the turbo.

I'm a Porsche guy so if I was comparing a new Turbo S to a high dollar other brand of car, in the end I would always just get the Porsche. I can't really explain it other than when I get in another high dollar other brand car, I like it enough, it's pretty, fast, awesome, etc, but it's just not me.

I'm not into ostentatious, and I find that some of the other brands like Lambo, Ferrari, Acura NSX, Corvette, McLaren, etc are too outlandish in style for my simple tastes.

Most people that see my car find it rather bland in comparison to the others I named. That is exactly what I was going for. Bland, silver car but with ball busting speed and beautifully, restrained style. And P-car HERITAGE.

Interesting question. Outside of the Porsche line-up, the Mercedes GTS and Jaguar F-Type got my attention. Drove the Jag and thought it was solid; fun car with the drop top and exhaust note - lots of looks / comments. Haven't driven the GTS, but absolutely love the idea of an 8-cyl engine, having had one in my previous DD. I'm old school: prefer NA engines, more cylinders, etc. Could definitely see myself in the GTS if it has a manual gearbox.

I would choose a Mac 570S over a 991 turbo for the about same price, but our cars if lightly tuned are an incredible value and I prefer the 997 body style over the 991 which has grown to large for my tastes.

Great question.

There are times when I wish i had gone down the GT3/RS route (and therefore opens up all sorts of other exotica), but then when the clouds appear i realise that 4WD really is something special on real world roads. So, that rules out lots of exotica.

Also I am so focused on reliability/quality - e.g. looked an Vantage V12 but it would not last for me, plus huge costs, plus no grip in other than bone dry. A 1980s experience.

Probably the only possible 'other' is an R8 V10. Had a V8 for a while - equal of P build quality/reliability, more sonorous, but not quite the delicacy of the 911 (although appreciate 'delicacy' might be a matter of opinion), and towering fuel consumption. Also Audi seem to struggle with consistency of their handling 'model' - the B7 RS4 was brilliant, the B8 complex and cumbersome by comparison, and there are signs that the R8 V10 errs that way a little.

I left Porsche for a while and purchased an Aston Vantage V8....

Astons look amazing and are really enjoyable GT cars.... But compared to the 997TT they are a snore fest ... I would floor the car in every gear and still wouldn't excite me ...

Now my flashed 997TT is another story - lots of grins after every ride ... :thumb:

So for me to answer the OP - yes, I have no problem moving to another brand... but it better be an exciting car to drive ....

I bought a 997 turbo new in 2007.
My fun weekend car has to be a manual, all those new offerings are all auto's so not interested.
I had planned on buying a new 991 turbo when they came out but alas , also no manual.
Instead of buying a new Porsche I went a totally different route and added an almost new Bentley Arnage some years ago. Those 2 cars are complete opposites but make me happy.

Maybe I'll buy a new 991/2 GTS manual ?? Don't know yet. First see what HP it gets.

With our 997 Turbo recently being destroyed I've been considering lots of different options as a replacement.

In the end, the 3 finalists are all Porsche products.

I think I will always have a Porsche in the garage, but I've been tempted lately to buy an old Ferrari just to experience something different. I'm really attracted to the 355 and 360 cars.

For what I paid for my 997TT, there is no equivalent.

At new prices, I'd probably not have a porsche. plus I like the older stuff better.
