Default Side marker fell out - WTF? Easy fix?

Hi All,

Sorry, I did try to search but there are way too many threads mentioning side markers as the clears are upgrades pretty much everyone does on every German car...

Tonight my left (front) side marker popped out and I cannot get it to stay in securely now, but I also don't see anything obvious that's missing, broken or bent. They are the OEM clears from Suncoast about 18 months ago and I've probably R&R'ed them once since then. They were snug and secure when first installed.

Is this a common problem and can it be fixed easily or do I need a new lamp? (I realize I can MacGyver it for now with a tie wrap or duct tape or something.)

Thanks!

Should be easy fix. They are held in by a spring-metal clip on the end closest to the wheel opening. Likely just need to bend the clip so it snaps when it goes in. Front end has a plastic catch that slides in a groove.

I think they have pretty good pictures and instructions in the owners manual.

Good luck,
DC

Here's a pic, that little v clamp I think needs to be bent in all the way. Be careful, it only has one or two bends before its shot.

Thanks guys, yeah I already fiddled with the metal clip a bit. No go so far. It may have lost its spring. One of the cheaper parts on the whole car, at least!

I was sure there would be a side marker install thread somewhere here but can't find it (the search pulls up hundreds of posts referencing side markers but hard to find a DIY one). This has to be one of the easiest things out there but I've never done it before and i want to make sure I'm aware of any pitfalls (like ..."don't bend the v-clip too many times"). Can anyone point me to a DIY on this...? About to swap out my amber markers on my 997... Thanks. (And if not, Youtube to the rescue I'm sure!)

I covered this in a few of my DIY, though not much detail, as it is straightforward. TRY HERE

Thank you both. Knight can you post a link to those LED markers for the 997? I just bought the regular clears from Pelican Parts, now wondering if I should go for the LEDs instead...

Purchased them through Del Rey. Have had them for about 2 months no issues. Install was simple even for me.

Kept the box and stored the OEMs there.

i had the same problem. easy fix is double side tape the front corner of the side marker than it will stay in place. the metal tab can be bent beyond repair like mine was causing side marker to always be lose.

Thanks,
Sid
