Thoughts on this trade in offer?
Have been playing with idea of trading in my 997 tt for a '15 991 TTS.
Would love your guys' opinions on the trade in offer presented to me by dealer vs what the current market pricing on what a private sale # could be.
My car:
- 2008 turbo with 49k miles on clock
- 6MT
- GT silver with natural brown full leather
- All the bells - sport chrono, heated seats, illuminated door sills, dials in white, aluminum throughout,
- Bone stock except for Gt3 short shift kit and Europipe2 exhaust (will replace EP2 with stock exhaust before sell/trade and sell EP on side of course)
Car is in immaculate condition save for a few minor rock chips on hood. Many have commented that my car is nice example of well kept 997tt they have ever seen. Replaced windshield, and all plastic in door panels, including the illuminated door sills to bring it back to that new look.

Dealer is offering me $61k trade in.
I think it's way too low but on scale of 0-10, where 0 = fair and 10=abs insulting, where does $61k live?

$61k is pretty good for dealer trade on what is kind of a high mile car (sadly).
Private sale, you'd probably be at $65k or thereabouts.
I paid $58k retail on a car with 50k miles that doesn't look as clean as yours, but overall in good shape.
Where were you 6 months ago, I would have definitely bought a silver car.

It's a beautiful car, love the natural brown interior, so rich looking. Also looks very well cared for. With good history and records, I would have thought more like $70-75K. Definitely sell it privately, the dealer is a rip.

Based on your scale, I think it is a 1 or 2. Of course, everyone wants more for their trade-in. More than anything else, I think the dealer is making more money on the new car sale. Is this a trade in only or do you have to buy the new car from them as well?

You're almost there. Consider offering it on our member to member classifieds and make one extremely happy person at $61K. I'm sure you can get the turbo S very soon. And who knows, stall the dealer a couple of weeks, go see it a few more times and perhaps they will lower the price another $3k to get it off their balance sheet. Plus another $3K from parting out the EP2 gets your closer.

I'd list at $68k and be happy with $65k.

Low $60k was my guess as ~3 months ago I sold my 2007 TT..but you should get a great deal on the new 991 turbo with '16 coming. My guy called me and some dealers as well corp inventory are doing an easy 10% below MSRP. GOOD LUCK.

Thx for all the great info guys. I had initially thought the offer was rather fair (being that it was obvs coming from a dealer).
Need to mull over the decision a bit more before I trade or sell it.
I spent 2 years finding my 997tt as it was the perfect spec for me and damn near perfect except for a few rock chips and the higher miles than I wanted (which were all freeway anyway).
I told everyone, including wife many times, that I'd have this car for 5-10 years.
And here I am 2 years in... getting the urge - dammit!

Consider that if you trade it to the dealer you will get the tax offset of approximately $6,000 towards the other car. That added to the $61,000 make it a $67,000 deal. Considering the hassle of selling it privately and the high miles you have on it I would trade it in.

^^^ I also agree with trade in value will help offset the tax on the new car. $65k is fair private sale but you prolly get more from the dealer if you considering the tax benefit and less hassle sale private.
