Default Pcm 2.1 replacement

So, what's the latest in 2015 on pcm 2.1 upgrades, either 2.1-3.0 conversions or aftermarket options.
Thanks
Happy 4th

There is a PCM 2.1 map update for the USA for 2014. I did the update and it added some useful information. I also have the Mobridge M2 Pro in my car, which adds streaming Bluetooth audio as well as Bluetooth phone connectivity. That's modern enough for me.

I bought everything to converse to PCM3, in the end I decided against it. You have to butcher a lot of OEM cables and stuff.
In 10 years nobody cares if the car has PCM2.1 or 3.0 anyway, both systems will be relics from the past. People will care and appreciate an OEM car much more.

The best solution imo is the one that looks almost OEM, however, like with every after market unit you lose center display info:

Sony Walkman and earphones

Actually I am using the Dension 500 BT, and while not perfect, keeps OEM look, and gives you the missing features...

I like it very much. I typically use it for Pandora or Spotify, but you can connect your phone to it using a USB cable for direct control of iTunes playlists, etc. The hands-free phone works very well too, and it utilizes the phone functions of the PCM unit so it has a very "OE" feel to it.

I have a implemented a excellent solution to the Dension on 6speed. Basically the problem with the Dension in a nut, the optical gates are to slow. The PCM in our Porsche are much quicker no pun intended. The problem relies in then optical loop window of detection. It's a timing issue. I believe they have fixed it since my last conversation with one of the engineers we kind of think the same stupid language. My solution is simply unpowered source for unit. The stack is reset and Dension responds immediately when polled by the PCM unit. Works 100% with no issues. If you connect to an always powered source, role the dice you might get lucky when the PCM polls. If not, then the Porsche PCM will tell you that it no worky. Trust me on this one. I love my Dension works with IPhone 4, 5 and 6. Don't know anything about android but it's the same Bluetooth topology. Plus it's less than $500 at Enfig!

I think that either the Denison or the Mobridge are nice solutions that tap into the MOST fiber optic ring. The Mobridge unit provides excellent sound quality, and I imagine that the Denison unit does too.

Dennis - Did you do the Mobridge install yourself? If so, how much of a pain is it?

I've been toying with installing an aftermarket unit, but would prefer to keep it as OEM as possible. The biggest thing I'd really like is to have bluetooth streaming for music. Tired of listening to the radio.

That is great info! Thanks. I get the "CD Changer not found" message and have tried everything. Unit works great, but when it first pings the Dension, it must not be ready? Sounds like you are saying to power it from a switched source (ignition source)? If so, I am going to try that...

Thanks!

I paid a professional to install it. It doesn't seem too difficult, but I'd rather have a professional do it. It took a couple of hours and I think he charged me $140 in installation labor. I also had him install a hard wire for my radar detector.

I had the 12V socket in the passenger's side footwell replaced with the USB port to connect the phone to the Mobridge system. It works very well.
