Default Carbon Fiber Hood Wrap...Not Bad!

Posted on 6Speed, and thought I would post here as well...

So yesterday, I had some free time (rare)...And I was out of projects to do on my P-cars for the moment...But I did have a sunny day (FINALLY!) and a large sheet of Carbon Fiber Vinyl Wrap.....Soooo, I decided to give it a try.

I only spent about 1 - 1 1/2 hours start to finish. I took the badge off the hood, made sure the hood was wax free with some ammonia cleaner and microfiber towels, and used a blow dryer, felt wrapped squeegee, credit card, and fine X-acto blade...And most importantly some patience!

I was just curious how it would look, and I thought it would help protect the hood, and it is easily reversible...Also the look started to grow on me with the GT2 hoods...

Posted pics below, and I am quite pleased with the outcome...and surprised I could get it applied so well since I have no WRAP experience...But not a bad job.

I know the look is not for everyone. But I think it looks pretty good for the small investment of time and money.

Thanks....I actually just bought a roll off of eBay 60" X 60" to see if I liked it....I think it was like $25 If I end up loving it....and depending on how well this holds up...I may end up buying some of the Xpensive stuff....But if it works...I will stick with the $25 stuff...haha

Hi Scott...

No GT2 Bumper cover. OEM...Then I made Wire mesh grilles, painted to match a techart style front lip, and cut a big ol' hole in the top and installed the OEM GT3 / GT2 Smile Grille and mesh underneath....

Very nice - I like it. How did you handle the corners/edges near the hinge points - that's usually the complicated area.

Thanks...

Yes..I saved those for last. I left extra material....left the hood down,,,then heated and pulled...then all the way in up position and heated and pulled the material to stretch it little around the edge...Then pulled from underneath a little...carefully trimmed, and then heated and pressed it down from underneath and on top with the felt covered squeegee...just trial and error. Came out pretty good there as well..

Looks fabulous! I think it works really well with Black, not sure if it would be so attractive on my White one.

Thanks....I guess it depends on individual taste...Here is a good estimation of what yours might look like if it is white??

Very well done!, sir!

And, as usual, great write up!

How far from Detroit are you? Can one rent you out???

HaHa...I am about 1.6 hours south of Chicago...and 5.5 hours from Detroit. Have been considering buying a small lake house in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, or Indiana...So may be closer (on weekends) at some point
