"Spun" Camshaft
Well, my engine is out of my car, and the cam shafts are out to inspect what's wrong with them. As they expected before the engine came out, the bank 1 intake cam is "spun" in the variocam sleeve. The cams themselves are hollow (which is how the variocam works, hydraulically).
Here's a picture of a good cam, where the sleeve is in alignment:
As you can see, you can stick a screwdriver through the entire portion of the sleeve.
Here's a picture of a bad cam, where the sleeve is cockeyed and no longer passes oil all the way through:
Now we wait to see what Fidelity says. There are two 07 997TT's in the dealer right now with the same affliction. Both have under 30k miles. One is beaten to death (Type 6 overrevs), and mine has low type 1s ans 2s. So, it doesn't appear to be an abuse issue. I also have an oil leak on the top of the engine that we'll have to find as well. Ahhh, Porsche ownership

Those bushings in the end are just a press fit. Happened to me long time ago and I had new ones made and fitted. as quick and in expensive compared to new Cams.
PM me for contact if you need.

Thanks, I will do that. This seems way more widespread than I thought. I'm definitely not going to repair the cam with a factory one that could just repeat this all over when it's on my dime next time.

For those of you following along at home, Fidelity is sending an aduster out tomorrow to take a look at my motor. I'm pretty lucky, the adjuster has Porsche experience, and was really happy that we have the engine taken apart to demonstrate exactly what's wrong with.
The estimate is $7200 with parts and labor. I'm sure some sort of haggling will take place, so I bet they will settle this +/- 10% of this.
Here's a pic of my recently lightened vehicle. Next time I'm in there, I'll take a picture of its sister in cobalt blue with the exact same issue on the lift next to it!

Ok thanks, im looking into getting a fidelity engine/powertrain warranty but Im wondering what fidelity thinks of having a tune and exhaust. Will they insure it regardless?

I'll find out next month after I get my exhaust on mine. If I need to, I'll flash back to OEM tune and take out my TPC DSC module as well. I did review the Fidelity Platinum warranty and the exhaust is not covered on the warranty. However, it doesn't say anything about the warranty to other parts if you have an aftermarket exhaust. I'll ask this and some other questions before I write a check for the Fidelity warranty.
