Just so you know.. The TDT has more metal conditioning ZDDP.. Mobil 5W50 is a great oil. I'm in the initial testing of Penrite Premium 0W50.. It is a FULL real deal PAO group 4, and 5 Ester oil. With additive packages that compare to pre 2000. Blackstone is testing the oil right now.

Very interesting topic.

So, 0w-40 is too thin.

What about Castrol EDGE Professional TWS 10W-60? Sportec puts it into all customer and race cars.

I do not track my Turbo and I do cold-start on 0C to +10C ambient temperature, so that would mean 10w-60 is too thick for my purpose?

I did notice that on a fresh 10w-60 refill I had chain rattle for a second on cold starts.

The engine wear on cold start up is the greatest.. You want an oil that will move quickly thru your engine. When you hear the chain rattle, the thick oil is telling you that it's not moving thru the engine. Your pressurized chain tensioners have NOT fully filled.. Wear and damage will occur. IF that tensioner does not fill quick enough you chains can SKIP a sprocket tooth. Rare but I have seen it!

The Castrol Edge 10W60 is a great oil, however it is too thick for this engine. The only place where I would recommend this is in very high temps well over 95F..

You can order, import the Mobil 5W50.. Go across the border and get it in Germany if you have too.

I wish I had a way of knowing what the chain rattle sounds like. When I'm driving slow and have the clutch pushed in I can hear a chatter, but I don't think that is the timing chain. I guess its time for a youtube search.

Do you have a LWFW? Could even be that.

When you press the clutch pedal in with a LWFW, the noise usually stops.

I've been using mobil 1 peak life 5W50 for a few years now, but noticed Mobil 1 replaced it with FS X1 5W50.

Did someone here look into this, is it also a good choice for our engines?

Use the Mobil 5W50 with the "Porsche A40" approval on the bottle.
