P0420 error code - Do aftermarket parts need to comply with Federal warranty?
"Trouble Code - P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)"
I have an aftermarket GMG exhaust with cats. My question is does GMG, or any aftermarket seller/fabricator, need to comply with the 8year federal warranty (http://www.epa.gov/obd/pubs/420f09048.pdf)? I sent an inquiry to GMG but haven't gotten a reply yet so I'm still waiting. My plan is to see if GMG can just provide me with the cats. In the meantime. Try Seafoam. Try Techron. Do my 40k and swap plugs. Maybe swap O2 sensors. Did I miss anything? Just curious. Thanks. |
Here is a good link. For the 997TT we need the 200 cell version of this. The 5" cats should last a long time. I have used this cat for many years and the Kimera reinforced RACE reinforced version. I believe the Emitec manufactures the cells. Emitec is a OEM for Porsche..
The 8 year Federal warranty is for the car manufacture. The aftermarket shops get into trouble when the original equipment gets hacked apart. A shop can only replace the factory cartridge with a tested/certified unit. The serial number and manufacturer numbers are stamped into the casing. You can email me, if you need some help. |
Kevin. Thanks for the reply but no links...
I've been emailing you about a tune so I owe you a call anyway. |

funny you mentioned seafoam, i was always curious what all it did in an NA engine and what it would do to a FI engine.. if it helps/hurts/etc.
just seems to lug the engine and make a lot of smoke.. maybe someone could explain this better.. |
I would be careful with engine additives. The turbine VNT vanes are hard pressed to maintain clearances, lubricity is critical. You don't want carbon or soot deposits..
