Default Clutch Thrust bearing.

I have a lightweight flywheel and stronger clutch plate kit fitted around 10 to 15k miles ago.

1. The thrust bearing has failed, both lips or tabs that the clutch fork pulls on, have broken off.

2. My concern is whether this thrust bearing is up to the job, it might be a badly cast part or should I up spec it to the strongest thrust bearing available (considering GT3 road/Cup car components).

3. I don't want to fit the same part if it is likely to fail again.

Any help or info would be great!

Poor installation...

The installer had the T/O bearing slip and most likely wedged it against the fork the first time that he sucked up the tranny to the engine.

You will need to replace the fork, guide tube, and T/O bearing. When installed correctly they go along time without failing.

When I hear or see Bearing with ears broken off, it always comes down to the install. The installer won't admit to having a issue.

BTW, I even have trouble sometimes. The fork slips and you have to catch it right there. The job is done by feel. If the T/O bearing slips off the fork the ears get flat spotted.

Porsche specs out special grease for the T/O bearing and fork. If it is not used correctly the pads on the fork wear. The T/O bearing slips in use and jambs causing the ears to break.

This system has been in use since 1992 on the RS and on RSR's.. Pressed in FULL race conditions. Let alone all the 944's that have run these components on the track and off the track.

Is there a way of testing or checking the part to see if it was down to install or no way to prove?

One thing that I failed to mention up above which ties into improper installation. Mechanics sometimes don't read the 964RS installation instructions. And when they bolt the pressure plate on to the clutch disk they quickly realize that they have installed the clutch disk 180 degrees from what it should be. Another words they see what they took out with the dual mass, and they mimic that only to find out that it is incorrect. This will put alot of stress on the throw out bearing.

All you are showing me is the pictures of the failed part. What I have asked earlier>>which guide tube was installed?? Post the pictures of the guide tube? And then post pictures of your clutch disk. The parts that you have shown in the picture are Very Good...

The pic of the kit is in the link above the pics!!!!!

But here you go to save some time.

Also the mechanic said the clutch plate is fine and so is the tube and the damage was done to the slave and the bearing!

Tomorrow I will get pics of the actual clutch plate and guide tube fitted to my car.

Also in the kit I purchased as you can see it comes with everything inc the grease.

So like you said it must be the installer.
