Yes, 6-speed manual, and I've had all services done at Sonnen in Mill Valley. I've gone the independent route on another Porsche I had, and that did not go well, so I decided to stick with a Porsche dealer this time around. So far I've been happy with their service.

I believe the tip will be less valuable. As the car gets older 'enthusiasts' will become the potential market and we know from previous experiences most (if not all) want a manual. See 964 and 993 values to have an idea.

This is an interesting comment as my singular issue (as of now) is: will I like the tip??? I suspect that I won't know the answer to this until I drive one. I also suspect that I made my decision more difficult when I told my daughter my next P-car will be one that she can learn to drive.
And I suspect a follow-on Q is: will the Tip hold it's value in comparison with the 6-speed?

It could happen that service is not minimal, if you need, say, slave cylinder or full clutch change. Maybe TT is "bullet proof", but it is no VW when things need to be repaired.

The longer term value question seems to be a no-brainer with the Tip falling behind the 6-speedand/or requiring more time to sell. Since this isn't an investment I suspect that I'll deem this a secondary priority.
Regarding whether I'll enjoy the driving experience: the (lack of) launch performance won't bug me. Reduced performance/enjoyment in the twisties is another matter. Those of you familiar with the notion of "waking the cows up" in Marin/Sonoma counties (NorCal) and locations further north up to the Lost Coast (or east over the Sierra...no cows but lots of critters) requires precise shifts for maximum stupid-smile-on-the-face enjoyment so it will be necessary to locate a vehicle to test to determine how it performs in that circumstance.
Perhaps the right 911 for me at this time is the 2009 C4S w/PDK. Yes, I suspect that I will potentially be disappointed vis-a-vis the 997TT but I'm not the type that harbors regrets..and this should be my toughest decision in life, right?!?!?
This all said, I am hugely envious of you guys and more importantly, I greatly appreciate the hand-holding and hope that you'll still give me the flash/wave if I get a C4S (or even when I'm in the '80SC!)

A great car. The only reason I sold mine and bought a 991 is for something different. I am waiting for a 991 turbo.

The real hunt will begin...
All this rational intelectual talk about repair costs and so on makes me think the OP has not driven one yet! Hop in the saddle buddy and trust me these concerns on maintenance and so forth will fade away as fast as the turbos spool up and throw you back in your seat! Then the real hunt will begin... Giddy up!

The tip is not PDK. From those who own a PDK car, they seem to love it.
I'm in good health (even with my broken right foot right now), but I could never see having an auto/tip/pdk in my '09 Turbo. 6speed just gives me a thrill I won't get elsewhere, but that's a personal choice. Not a good vs bad - it's up to you, just like color, options, etc. Get what you are comfortable driving.
I bought the last of the older generation engines - that was motivation to move me out of my 6speed C4S Cab, and into the Turbo Cab. Like most have stated, it's the end of that line on the engine with so much history from Porsche, but that does not take away from a good, clean, well-equipped 997.2 either.
You are the only one who can decide these things. As for my own choice - I love the turbo driving experience, and would not trade it for anything.
Good luck with your decision.

I figure my dad let me drive his 930 and I need to do the same with my kids, don't ya think?!?!?!

Drove both versions of an 07 TT for a day each; one was tip and the other a 6 speed. The 6 speed is just more engaging. Unless you are sitting in traffic all day, the 6 speed is the way to go. Had a non turbo in the past, this car dwarfs it. Just do it.......
