Default Second round of mods - H&R and cosmetic

Just got teaser pics today.
Car was lowered on H&R - will be posting measurements once back.

Installed a front GT3 style air duct, like the look.

Also did a slight modification on the front turn signals, so now I have real driving lights. Not chinese made, but hand made on the original lights, the real deal - break the seal, pry apart the lights, and change the led bulbs one by one... Thank you Mr. Skandalis for the hard work that went into this.

Changed the interior lights to ice white leds, and will be looking to replace the rear fender protecting stickers to flat black...

Here is a teaser I got, and a mock up of the side stickers.

More when I get the car, or over the weekend...

So you put the H and R's on Nick? Like the LED DRL's too. Nice.

Yesterday I was able to take my car on some fast "twisties" near my home. I haven't driven it fast since I had the H & R springs installed. Wow what a difference. Unndersteer is almost gone. The car actually goes where you point it now. Very pleased about that.. I haven't torn my spoiler lip off yet either... End of next week I'll get it aligned...

Dianic your car looks very cool with the new mods...

Thanks skand and phillipj for your impressions on the springs. Nick the shot of the car without the vent has the stock ride height, but am not sure about the other pic showing the front side looking down. Is this a pic of the car lowered?

Do you perhaps have any new shots of the car from the side view so we can see the before and after heights? Also with weekend now here, do you have any driving impressions yet, positives and any negatives thanks.

I took the car for a short ride. It drives great. It is 10% harder perhaps but feels more composed.
I will try to explain with laymen terms, as I understand it. Te travel of the spring is compression and decompression. As the spring is lower, and the decompression is much much less (entering my office ramp with Skands car before I installed, the front wheel would lift significantly on the steep ramp as it turned - the "hang" of the spring is significantly less). So, in dips, the car seems the same as before. In lifts, it is stiffer, more taught.

Feels great so far, but no weekend ride today to test on the twisties. Plus I have Skands car in my garage!

I am planning shots in the same places I have shots of the car pre-lowering. You are correct, the pic pre vent install (is the mockup of the black sticker I want to put on the side) is with stock height. I have also measurements posted in another thread, pre springs, comparing with Skands lowered car. All in due time.

Default H & R springs

I will take some shots of my car today with the new ride height.. Going to drive it one more week and then get it aligned.

I really like the way it looks and the ride is very acceptable.. I'll post pictures later...

Okay here are some pics of the lowered car.. I went down to the Rose Bowl (I live right above it) and took some pics in mid day sun.. Not the best environment... I had to pump a lot of contrast in the images

Gets the idea across though. The springs will settle a bit more after another week.

I'm very happy so far....

I'll take better pictures later..

Phillip

Nice!
Next thing you need is spacers to bring your wheels a bit further out into the well. I have 16s in the back, and nada in the front, I will go with 5mm fronts for sure. That is if you are not tracking the car... If you are, then its a topic to discuss further!

Thanks ! Yeah I was going to mention that the car needs spacers now..

Nick, I have been told to go 14mm rear and 7mm front... Is that not the correct set up? Do you have any "tire rub" issues with the 16's on the rear? Any guidance on the spacer issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Phillip

Well.
I bought my car with the rears on... they were 22's!! from a narrow body I assume, I dont even know what brand. They looked bad, so I was going to take them off, and when I was about to do so, the guy said that he could take some meat off, behind the lugs that attach it to the hub. So what I am left with now are 16s.

I would be very happy with 14s, and also quite happy with 11s. There are plus and minuses with this setup. Most important is weight. The spacers that are large and attach to the hub increase weight and by quite a lot... The narrower ones can go with longer bolts, however the longer bolts are weaker as per the laws of physics. And trust me there are issues with g forces back there. So, since my car is not for track, I decided that adding a little weight back there is better than breaking a bolt. For the fronts, I believe that the 7s are with longer bolts. If not, go for the Porsche supplied 5s.

All in all as per that other thread I would love to change my wheels, but its not the right time. So I will settle for now with spacers. I do think that the 7-14 set up is optimal. I assume you are referring to H&R correct? Go with a named product, quality is important on that front because of the forces at play. Hubcetric always...

Thanks Nick! I really appreciate it. I'm not going for new wheels either.. I have two sets.. One off my 997 S and a 996 set that I can't sell. They are basically brand new and no one will touch them.. (or they want them for almost nothing.) Although wheels are cool THEY ARE THE WORST INVESTMENT EVER lol! I'd rather have more "go fast" parts or suspension goodies. I kind of like my car to look like a "sleeper" anyway..

Plus I know as far as un-sprung weight goes there are very few wheels out there as light as the OEM's. Thanks again for your help and advice.. And no I don't track my car..

Phillip
