First Porsche Car - Considering 2007/2008 Turbo?

Based on that, my line of thinking was that I could get (the analogy is on the Greek market prices, and it augments the point) a 300k euro car for 100k or a 190k euro car for 110 or 120k. Just the depreciation difference meant to me that I was getting a better deal with the TT car. Someone else had gotten the bigger hit.
Also, and very importantly, and exactly along your line of thinking as well as our OP's concern, I was worried that getting an n/a car, although newer and better, if depreciation wasnt an issue, it would mean that soon I would wonder how much of a better car the TT would be... and crave for it. Whereas now, I believe I have quenched that thirst and can be content with my choice for many years to come.
Mostly what I take away from your post, and I believe that the OP should as well, is to drive both cars with an open mind. I was sarcastic when I wrote that when you drive both you will still get the turbo, as I think the G's are intoxicating. That should be a decision he should take himself.

My 2c: after driving the Turbo, you won't be able to settle for anything else. Don't drive it if you're not ready to buy it.

It appears that this thread has been 3 + years old. Nonetheless, I wonder if Kathuat bought his 2007 911 Turbo? I am also considering upgrading my current '08 Carrera S to a pristine low mileage '07 Turbo coupe.

LOL! I looked at this thread and saw one of my old pre-TT posts! I jumped into an ,08 non-CPO TT cab last summer and love it. It is a GREAT car and after pushing it hard to the limit a few times you get to know where the power is. It is a very manageable 480 HP car. This being said, I do miss the 'wail' of the C2S and will be modding the exhaust this coming winter.

From http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...turbo-page-3-1, C/D wrote the following concerns on the 2007 911 Turbo:
"Around town, the shifter seems notchier than that of most Porsches, and the lack of clutch-pedal linearity caused everyone who drove it to stall at some point"
I also feel the same when I test drive the 911 Turbo. The clutch pedal travel space seems botched a bit with a popping sound when pressed down. I never have this on my '08 C2S.
The C/D also wrote:
"... it doesn't get the juices flowing or stir the soul. You are impressed by it, rather than in love with it. It's a car you can use everyday, rain or shine, in the city or on the open road, but we would rather save 20 grand and buy a 911 GT3, which sounds better and is a purer driving experience."
I kind of thought about GT3 for a while. From what I learned, it appears that GT3 is tuned for track while the 911 Turbo is more civil and more suitable for for everyday use.

I think that buying a turbo is a bit less legit than a gt3 for porsche prestige, but perhaps more practical. I wanted a lotus elise (i.e. gocart) but my wife pushed for a 4 seater... I live at 7200 feet so I pointed out the merits of a turbo, and there it went. I love my turbo and haul the family (kids 3 and 5) all the time, so it turns out she was right. The trade off for not always super sexy is that it is more acceptable to sneak to work in it, whereas the lotus would have been more exotic but the excuse of cheaper.
First world problems, no doubt. For $80k force the cpo issue if possible, but there are not many 2007-2008 with cpo around anymore (I managed to get a new 2 year cpo, but my guess is you'd be fine without it--note that you can only buy it from a porsche dealer or private party, not a 3rd party dealer).
fwiw I really wanted a convertible, we get a lot of sun. Do what you want to do.

I was in a similar boat; wanted an Exige or a 911. Decided to go for a more comfortable DD and got a 2007 911T. So glad I did, love it.

Now I dont know how fast a 997.1 TT is but my 997.2 PDK with launch control is faster than a 993 TT and a 996 TT.
BUt no matterwhat the new 9A1 motor and the PDK make a great pair.
My choice would be a 997.2 PDK C2S vs a 997 TT, and that is my quick observation either way you cant lose.
I know the 9A1 motor and PDK is good, but the Mezger engine is a bullet-proof BEAST, and I love my tiptronic. I almost didn't buy it based on all the unfounded negative reviews of the tip. Until, I drove a 997.2s PDK and then the 997.1 turbo back to back. It was a no-brainer decision. Turbo all the way. If the OP is going to keep the car long-term, don't EVER set foot in a turbo or you will be kicking yourself. As for potential upgrades and mods in the future, according to the guys at Switzer the tip can handle over 700 hp. I'm not sure what the PDK can handle but I believe it is very difficult to upgrade. Not so on the tip. Good luck!

I have a TTS, so it is a 997.2 and it has PDK.
You are looking at a different car but hope my comment will help.
So I drove two weeks ago a 997.2 PDK 4S. It is of a friend of mine, he was tired on the way back home and asked me to drive. The impression is that the car is not moving cause the difference made by the 2 turbo is impressive.
So if you look for adrenaline don't think about it and buy the Turbo.
If you think that the 4S is enough (and it surely can be) go for it but do not test a Turbo
