Default #1 Key / #2 key

How are the keys coded to be #1 and #2?
Do they come from the factory that way, or can you open them up and change them, or set it at the car somehow?

I am guessing you bought a used car and are trying to keep the newer key, which is number 2. I have the same question... :-)

Aren't the keys made to work with the seats to automatically adjust to individual drivers once you set them up? Not sure if this is what you are asking.

Yes the keys, set the drivers seat position and stuff.
Of all things I lost my #1 key. I swear my threee year old ate it...

Sigh.

Bumping this old thread.

Yes, I bought a used car and want to switch to the newer key, but not have it say "Key 2". Still stuck on dealer only?

Thanks.

In my case the ugly (silver) key is #1 and sleek (black) key is #2. That annoys me.

I'm a noob here so forgive a dumb question but...what difference does it make which key you use?

Depending on your year / options, certain memory functions can be linked to which key you use.

Other than that it says Key One or Key Two when you start.

Key #1 or Key #2 displays as such when you start it... I did the same (using key 2 as my primary) and I don’t care that it says key 2 when I start the car.

Sounds like I need to do the same and stop caring! LOL.

I purchased this and covered my Black Key. It actually looks great.
