Default Should I clear bra my black 997TT?

On the fence with this one since I heard black cars show the film more worse. Any input?

On my black GT3 I had the entire front of the car done. Entire hood, fenders, bumper. Eliminates the line but does give the paint a bit of an orange peel look. Well worth the protection in my opinion.

no questions, gotta do it. Venture Shield will drastically reduce orange peel over 3M.

I spent the first 90K miles of my Arena Red 993's life doing touch up paint with a tooth pick. Looked like $h.t Got a front respray and did the Venture Shield. Same when I took delivery of the TT. Drove it directly to the Venture Shield installer. Bumper, full hood job, plus fenders etc. No fence for me.

Having had a Midnite blue TT I would say the darker colors are a must clear bra. That was my one regret of that beautiful color. Now my GT silver car is clear coated but a dark color? no question thats a an absolute. VERY cheap insurance.

On black it's an absolute must as the paint chips white to the primer. Areas to be concerned about:

1. hood
2. front bumper
3. front fenders
4. areas directly behind tires
5. lights

Proper installation will make it look 100xs better. In today's market, there are many so called "certified" installers. Do not take too much into this certification as it is only a 2-3 day training course - not very extensive. What's more important is the installer's number of year's in the industry. Be sure to look at the finished product, which will give you a pretty "clear" idea of what it would look like on your own car.

Actually on silver cars venture shield is critical, as you can not touch up silver paint properly. The color will NEVER match, as the metallic stands up differently coming out of a paint gun, an airbrush, or a paintbrush. Black is the easiest color to touch up, but black cars sure look bad when they're all chipped up.

I was on the fence for a while and ended up having Premier install the Ventureshield on my silver 997TT. They did a great job and I'm happy I had it done. Now I can drive and not have to worry about the small chips and pits. I think it's better to keep the original paint in pristine condition and replace the Ventureshield if it's ever needed.

I am happy to hear you are happy with the Ventureshield on your white TT. I have also been on the fence on this for upcoming white TT. Do you have any yellowing happening? Did you Matrix your paint? Are your rear fender clearcoats that came from the factory yellowing or did you have those redone? Thanks.

I had the paint polished prior to install and (knock on wood) have not had any yellowing so far. Im also all over the car because I enjoy detailing myself so Ive come to know every inch of her. I am religious about "finishing" every wash with a product that my installer gave me to aid in keeping the film well lubricated - you do not want to let it get dried out for an extended period of time because it can become "brittle" and start to fatigue. Most of these kinds of products also double as a light wax to aid in bug/tar removal. Unfortunately, I was given a gallon of this stuff in an institutional container so I dont know the name of it but the installer uses it in their shop so its good enough for me - they do all film installs and a host of other things for the local Ferrari Dealer and since I know several of the folks there that swear by my installer, I figure this mystery product must be ok. I know there are several good products out there for just this purpose. Bottomline, Im hoping this extends the life of the film and keeps it looking great - I can definitely say the film looks as good today as the day it was installed back in May '07. I also don't see any difference between covered and uncovered paint. Regarding the factory film in front of the rear wheels, I like the extra thickness since this is a wear-prone area so I kept it and had them install around it. The new film married up very nicely to it.

Finally, I've also had the full front (quarters, hood, bumper) of my wife's silver grey mettalic '08 BMW 535 covered and Im very pleased with how the Ventureshield looks on that color as well. I can definitely attest to the fact it doesnt eggshell nearly as much as 3M, although I think both films are good quality.

Hope this helps - like many, I did my research and settled on the application that seemed to suit me best and Im very happy. Most importantly, as stated in this thread and many others...get a high quality installer.

At the end of the day, its really all about piece of mind that youre protecting your investment and keeping it looking nice.

Steve
