Default PCCB rotor replacement....

Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you guys had to replace your PCCB rotors as a result of tracking your TT. My TT has only 4000 miles but I track it a lot!!
I got about 10-15 track days(after the 2000 mile break-in) I have a full track alignment with motons and I replaced the rears pads once already!!!
I had a good 3-4 mm's left on the pad when I found out that my rear rotors are shot!!
Any one else having rotor issues??

Thanks in advance!!!

How are the rotors "shot" ? Are they cracked, or what? Curious to know as I'm planning on taking my car to the track at some point.

There are 3 rotor indicator spots on the rotor itself. Kind of like the tire wear indicators.Physically the rotors look fine, I didn't even notice the 3 wear indicators until a motorsport tech. showed me!!
There are a few heat cracks but that is normal!!
Nothing was obvious

Cheers!!

Some guys who have the PCCB option and who track their cars have returned to my delearship with issues involving heat and cracked rotors. None of the street guys have had problems. This is what my service rep told me last week when I dropped by to pick up some car related stuff at the parts dept. I asked him if that option could be purchased in the future and the cost. If I remember correctly the parts (not including labor) was $18K. OUCH and I thought $9K was steep. Anyhow thats how the topic came up. I wish I could elaborate but next time I see him I'll inquire further.

Eric,

since you and your brother track alot you might be better off switching to the Brembo GTR brakes. They are as light as the PCCB's, probably even better in performance and the rotors blanks should be relatively cheap by comparison. You also then avoid the fragility issue of the ceramics altogether.

explain to me then-if the pccbs don't tolerate the streese of tracking without leaving an expensive bill behind, what is the point of spending 9k to get them?

No brake dust to clean up?
I get 45K-70K street miles on rotors with the 993, so I may not replace my PCCB rotors in 10 years of 997 TT ownership.

FWIW as a data point, when I traded my 996 it was still on the original rotors at 39k miles. That includes lots of track weekends and frequent pad and fluid changes. Yet rotors still had lts of meat left on them. So I would say 8 yrs is pretty good for a set of rotors.

I had to replace all 4 rotors on my c4s at about 50k miles and a ton of track days, grooved pretty bad, 886$ parts 4 new rotors/pads 2hr easy diy install. I fear the 10k brake job in pccb cars, that's why I passed, glad I did the new big reds are phenominal, the biggest, best steel brakes porsche has ever made.
