Dealer tells me 08 TT coupes will be scarce
Any truth to this in other parts of the country, larger dealers may have better allocations. I was shown a e mail from my dealer that showed only two allocations through july 08.
The shortage they say is due to the TT cab build, when they build the cab they build very few coupes.
Who can set this straight.

My dealer told me 2 weeks ago when I ordered, September build.
As I have yet to receive any written confirmation, I just sent him an email. I'll let you know.

This is very much true for the dealers that I called. There are relatively very few coupe allocations, at least in the first few months of 2008 model year. And it IS because of the cabriolet introduction.
Larger dealers WILL have more allocations. A small dealer here supposedly has one coupe allocated for the whole year, and it's in March 2008!! Basically if you see an early coupe spot like September or August, grab it!

Point being the value of our cars, in our gargage or has build dates confirmed, or in transportation.
I'm not selling mine but it would be sweet to know these cars will be scarce over the next year.
The GT2 next year @ 520hp or more will slow resale of the 997TT, or price may restrict the extra power bonus.

Over on the Rennteam site someone gave the allocations of a Texas dealership for MY08....
25 Cabs + 15 Coupes (with over a year waiting list on the cab due to demand)
...I assume that means for MY07 there were 40 Coupe slots. So nearly 3 times less in MY08!
Not good for me as I have been told that if the coupe allocations are the same between MY07 and MY08 that I will get my coupe by Christmas. More like next Christmas if this information is accurate

Well I hope they slow down the production of TT coupes. They released too many with the 01-05 runs of the 996TT. It killed the value of the TT. I hope they can learn their lesson this time around. Sorry for those who are on allocation slots waiting - just pick up a good pre-owned one

Ten years ago I sold my '87 3.2 in July and did not take delivery of the 993 until Dec 24. I can handle 3 weeks Porsche-less. Any more, I need to be fitted for the straight jacket and a good prescription.

completely different animal and the price difference is sometimes prohibitive (see 996 Gt2~$200K)
It wouldnt even enter my mind if I was looking at a TT given the price point.

i think that the entire thing here is that porsche is making the cab alot earlier in the 997 turbo run than they did in the 996 turbo run-as a result, less coupes will made than with the 996 tt. it wasn't until 04 that the coupes were reduced in the 996tt(they made tons of coupes in 01, 02 and 03). with the 997tt, it seems like the only year that alot of coupes will have been made is 07. possibly, the people who did the best were the buyers who picked up later 07 coupes, and got a decent discount (5k). i paid full list for my last november delivery for my 997tt-possibly, all of you 08 future owners will pay similar (if not higher due to the price increase), and wait longer. all in all though, it is the earlier introduction of the cab that is controlling coupe sales. and i agree-the gt2 will have absolutely nothing to do with decreasing 997tt resale values-if anything, it would support the resale.

My dealer here in SD just confirmed that porsche is going to build half as many 08 coupes than 07s.
He also has 0 allocation for august.

They built as many as they could sell... were there a bunch left over at dealers that they couldnt sell ? Or had to dramatically drop the price to move them , or offer 0% finance etc?
So the lesson was build enough for all the buyers without expensive leftovers sitting on the lots?
I would say they excelled at this
Resale value has minimal effect on new car sales does it... and Porsche make new cars and are in business to make money from selling them?
Owners would like to think they made a good, non-depreciating investment... but its a car, not real-estate or stocks after all.
