K40 versus V1

K40 versus V1
I have thoroughly researched both RD's and all installment options. My conclusions are:
1. The interior of the 997TT is too refined and classy to place an 80's styled RD (V1) on the windshield.
2. The rear-view mirror stealth install does not obviate the need to hang the main unit on the windshield.
3. A RD found by a police officer during a stop increases the chances of receiving a citation.
4. The Radar Rack rear seat install does not adequately conceal the V1.
5. The V1 outperforms the K40 and seems to be the choice of most enthusiasts.
6. The K40 is approximately 1000.00 more expensive than the V1...but since this represents less than 1% of the total cost of our cars, it's pretty insignificant. I would happily pay the extra money to maintain the style of the interior.
7. I would pay 2000.00 more for V1 technology with a complete stealth install.
8. I choose to go with the K40, avoid the eyesore of the V1 on my windshield, and accept the risk of getting a few extra citations.
We really need a better alternative.

I think that you summed it up pretty good.
On the other hand let's concede that the V1 is more sensitive than the K40. So that it gives you a warning (say) at 1/3 mile instead of 1/4 mile. So what? Is this of any practical consequence? Are people with either unit reporting getting dinged because their RD failed them?
Didn't think so.

Your observations are the same as mine except I went with the V1 and remoted the control and display. The antenna unit isn't too obvious. Am still working on the ultimate solution for its placement. See my installation method at the link:

I prefer the V1.
I have had both types. The K40 should be better with the laser jamming. But I found too many false alarms with the K41. I also had bad laser sending units, one intermittant so it never got fixed. My K40 is a 6 year old version so they may be better now.
I just got the V1 with my TT. I like it much better. I trust it when it goes off and the front back indicator is useful. It seems simpler I was always adjusting the K40 sensitivity to avoid false alarms. I just use the default on the V1 and its fine and never adjusted.

if fuzzy dice gave me the ability to drive fast I would consider it. the first thing I will do when I get my 911TT this summer is hang the V1. I agree it is not pretty but effective. Kinda like my g500.
I have a k40 built in to my e55 and have had it turned off for 2 years.

The K40 doesn't work if you turn it off. You should try turning it on.
Virtually everyone who has a K40 (except you) has reported that they are very happy with it.
As I've said before the sensitivity of the V1 is irrelevant. As long as both prevent you from getting a speeding ticket then that's the bottom line. Who gives a crap if the V1 gives a warning one millisecond earlier?

Another point, my insurance co. (USAA) does not cover loss or theft unless permanently installed on the vehicle. At this point I'm leaning heavily to the K40, I just love the stealthy install and I don't want anything on the windshield.

I turned my k40 off because my valentine1 was better all around and way less annoying in my "real world" testing. I trust the v1. It may not look as nice as a k40 but it looks better than the back seat of a gumball machine.
