Default should my first 911 be a turbo?

I am really thinking of getting a 997 turbo this spring/summer. I currently have a fast 4 door e55K, but not like a turbo 997. I have some driving experience, but my real question is, is it a daily driver? I drive 20 miles to work and then some. I live in chicago where I would put snow tires on it. (and on real bad days could get a truck to use). SHould I get an "s" and work my way up to the turbo? Or just do it?
all opinions welcome, I am a newbie to this forum, but, may be here all the time!
I know this will get ripped but also considering an R8 audi. I have a very close relative who sells both brands of cars so wait and cost not really the issue.

jim-definitely get the 997 turbo as your first 911. i have had a 996tt and have a 997tt and use it as my daily driver i drive 25 miles to work every day each way and have winter tires on it now. i have driven my turbos in up to 5 inches of snow with no problem-if it is deeper, i use my cayenne. i have also had a 997c4s-the turbo handles similarly, just much more power. obviously, you have to drive the car with respect, but with all of the electronics on it to maintain stability, the car is very safe. if you have some common sense, you will be fine. i would say go for it.

997 turbo is a great daily driver. In fact that is what Porsche had in mind when they designed the car. I would definitely put snows on for the winter months not only for the white stuff but for traction when the temperature drops below 45 degrees.

Default Go for it!

I have also moved from a 997CS (cab) to the awesome 997TT. If you haven't owned a 997 before, I'd say go straight for the Turbo. For one thing the interior is almost identical, so sitting in rush hour traffic you will get the same "experience".

Bearing in mind you're coming from an E55, the CS will not feel significantly faster than your monster of a sedan. So, if you want to "upgrade" the Turbo is the way to go buddy

I agree - go for it.

Picked up my TT two days ago (trades in a C2S) and have put 500 miles on it already. I see no difference in it's "daily driveability". Frankly, it may be more of a daily than the C2S due to AWD, but I wouldn't hesitate to drive either every day. There is no reason to hesitate. The car is amazing. You can drive it conservatively and it is tame, smooth, etc. or get on it and all h@ll breaks loose. Really two cars in one!

Get it!

PS - The R8 sounds cool too (I have an RS4 and love it too.)

I also live in Chicago and put Conti Wintersporrts on right after Thanksgiving. Not only will it track in snow, but the softer compound stick better in the cold.

It may not feel much much quicker than an E-55, but that's because it just doesn't feel fast until well over 100 MPH. It will certainly outdrag the E-55 from any speed. Many fun mods and options available.

If you buy a C4 or C2 S you're gonna take a $20K hit when you trade up anyway. Just do it!

If you think you may want it, just get it and save the extra step of getting something else first.

I had a modded E55 and am thrilled with going the porsche route - haven't looked back.

I moved from E55k to 997TT back in Oct. Do a search on my posts if you want to see my comparison. In 3 words:

Go for it.

Default Yes Turbo

I got the TT as my first Porsche. If you can afford it why buy anything less?

My 997TT is my first Porsche. I say definitely go with the turbo. It takes about 200-300 miles of driving time for adjustment. Now I have around 1000 miles and I am in complete comfort with this incredible machine. (And I am an average driver.)

Get it!
It's a real daily driver without a doubt. I drove my C4S yr round for 4 years, all weather, track, 60k miles, great car, the TT should be 10 times better!

2k799tt, it is taking me longer than 1000 miles to feel at home in the tt. It often seems to be in to high a gear. I guess the hardest part is doing anything with the radio/telephone/cd while driving. The multifunction wheel can't be used without looking at the central panel, and I seem to get stuck in parts of the menu that requires use of the central main panel. But it is a great car and I have no regrets.
