Default Independent comparison of aftermarket tuning and exhaust systems?

Folks-

It seems that many of us are engineers, mechanics, scientists, etc.

It should be possible to create an independent, 3rd party comparative Table of products offered by Imagine Auto, Evolution Motorsports, AWE, FabSpeed, TechArt, Cargraphic, etc. (even if some of these systems use the same OEM). I know that measures of hp and torque are difficult to compare in an objective manner, because of all the variables involved. But this could be assembled into a "claimed category", or images of dyno sheets.

What could be recorded are elements such as weight, decibels and sound quality for different configurations, ease of installation, material used (titanium anyone?), quality of workmanship, reliability and longevity, price, etc...

Since it seems like so many of us are buying aftermarket exhausts and other tuning (e.g., GIAC flashing), we could cooperatively create such a comparison, without being critical of the suppliers.

Is this a good idea, or is it non-sense (like herding cats)?

Thanks - Gerry

I think it already exhists in forums like this. With the internet you can't hide BS for long.

C4S Surgeon-

I don't agree. There are numerous folks talking about their aftermarket systems, which is valuable information, and there are suppliers (like IA) that actually present data.

The internet does not always sort out the BS. Look at medicine as an example -there is quite a bit of misleading crap that is available online, even from so-called authoritative sources.

It is of interest to me that we can specific accurate camber settings, etc, but when it comes to objectivity about aftermarket modifications, there are very few valid measures - it falls into many people's dreams or "magical thinking" about power, etc, that is often enabled by the SEMA-type companies.

I would just like some consolidation of information, instead of random ramblings and guesstimates from suppliers.

Just my thoughts - Gerry

I think it's almost time for another exhaust shootout.
