The latest Tip or Manual Thread!
Hi All
My order date is coming up. I'm still on the fence with the transmission. Now that many here have driven or own turbos I wanted to hear everyones latest opinions.
In a perfect world I would be ordering a Ferrari F430 with F1 shift. I am a huge formula one fan. I wish the Tip Turbo had paddles instead of thumb shifters. However, $100K more for a Ferrari which isn't near the car the TT is is unjustifiable.
My question is this. How well do the thumb shifters work? Do you ever even use them or do you just let car handle itself? Anyone bought the Tip and wish they had bought Manual and vice versa?
Yes, I read all the other threads on this subject already.
Thanks

Before buying the 997TT with a 6 speed manual, the only car I could test drive to see if I preferred the tiptronic with was a new C4S Coupe at the dealer. There are two very different personal reasons why anyone would choose one transmission over the other:
1. Driveability
2. Purpose of the car
Driveability - I am old school and like to shift gears myself when driving a true sportscar. The tip felt like I was "out of the game" and the car was driving me, not me driving the car. So for me, it was about the control and the timing of the shifts. The C4S (and the Turbo may be different) with a tip seemed like a very tame car, where the manual feels more aggressive and sporty. Call it macho, or whatever, the 6 speed just felt better.
Purpose - I think if you are going to use it everyday to go to the office, on the freeways in bumper to bumper traffic, etc. the tip may be a better alternative.
In the end, it is a personal and subjective choice. Both transmissions receive high marks from their owners, so my assumption is that both are excellent. Your personal requirements and biases will dictate which transmission will be more appropriate.
Either way, good luck and have fun!

Yeah, I agee
Oh I agree with you there. It's ton on money, but a ton of car.
For my money I'm buying the TT. I'm #3 on our local list, so I'm probably a year or so out.
But, I've got a GT3 Oct build to tide me over until then, YEAH!

I had a 00 cab tip. I know that the newer tip is supposed to be better, but driving that old tip cab was about as exciting as imaging sex with Hilary Clinton. No f'ing way I would get it even it is .1 second faster. Stroking the gears is half of the fun.

Jason, sorry for the hijack, but its bound to happen whenever the controversy over the manual or tip commences. It goes from the ridiculous to the sublime.
