Default Thoughts on DME

Following up on my earlier thread, this is the DME on the 997 turbo. 2007 with 23k miles, evolution Motorsports 700 tune, aftermarket intercoolers and exhaust. I’ve been told that a tuned car will regularly over rev, but this seems excessive. I don’t like the fact that total operating hours are less then ignition hours.

That's an extremely clean DME, I wouldn't sweat that at all....if it was accurate....however, the operating hours discrepancy is a major red flag. I believe my 997.1tt at 29k miles read 1,000 operating hours for what it's worth. To do ~350 operating hours and 23k miles, do the math. It would have to be averaging ~65-70mph it's ENTIRE LIFE, every single hour.

Tunes will mess up the DME reports. I've yet to look at my own but probably should just to show how erratic or excessive to the untrained eye it maybe. It is weird on the operating hours, agreed.

I agree with the comments about operating hours. I purchased my 997 turbo with 23k miles and it had 800 operating hours.

I wonder if EVOMs could weigh in on the hours discrepancy? It is pretty weird to see that. They were extremely responsive to me when I had some questions about my car's tune. They should even have a record of that specific car.

I spoke with Sam at EVOMS about the car. He was very helpful but couldn’t really answer the DME question. Maybe I didn’t explain it right. I’ll talk to him again. It makes me feel better that this isn’t a horrible DME, hopefully I’ll get the car

I concur with others- the report overall looks good, but obviously the 348 hours doesn't make sense. The last type 1 over-rev was at 449.9 hours, per line 1.......... so it obviously has at least 449.9 hours on the motor. As for the mods- the value really depends on personal preference. In general, mods won't increase value to the average buyer and can even decrease the value. But if you plan to do mods anyways, then a modded car can be a bargain. None of these mods are very cheap. I would much rather buy a EVOMS 700 modded car over stock if it's been well maintained and cared for. An EVOMS 700 car is way more involving to drive than a stock car. But take what I say as one person's opinion only. I've spent a lot of money on my car with a 3.8L build, big turbos, and lots of custom tuning. Believe me, I couldn't sell my car for anywhere near what I have in it. So if I ever sell it, someone will be getting a bargain! As an aside, Sam Stone at EVOMS is a straight shooter and is an honest, good guy.

Over rev counter maxes out at 65535. Rule of thumb, divide vehicle miles by 30 to get approximate operating hours.

Good add. On tuned cars, they'll hit range 1 and add to them like crazy just running to redline - not even over-revving stock redline. If they raise stock redline, there ya go.

Yep. I had an agreement with the guy to purchase, but he was pushing me to make a deposit to his bank account using Zelle, after only a couple of days after first contact. I asked him to wait until a PPI and he decided not to, so deal fell apart. I didn't feel comfortable just wiring money to someone i never met. He seems very nice, was forthcoming with the little information he had. From my conversations with him it seemed he didn't know much about Porsche's and told me to ask the mechanic. The other thing that bothered me was the car sat for at least 9 months, while he was stuck out of the country. I figured i would have a chance at it after group think on BAT. But with all the excitement it looks like it'll go for more. I'm not going to comment on the auction, he treated me fairly
