Newbie Owner - 997.1tt w/ mods
Hi all - I'm a newly minted Porsche owner and this is my first post to the Turbo forum. It's a dream to own one. Also appreciate the amount of knowledge this group shares w/ each other, which has already helped me a ton.
So, I bought my 997.1tt a couple months back - it is a 2008 cab w/ 17.5k miles with tip & one prior owner. The pre-purchase inspection looked great including DME w/ mainly range 1 and very little in range 2 (nothing beyond). It was originally sold @ Champion Porsche in Pompano Beach, FL with a pretty robust spec incl full leather on everything (amazing how that adds up), chrono, painted seat backs, adaptive sport seats, illuminated sills, speed yellow instrument dials, yada, yada. All of those items were obviously reflected in the sticker price. In addition the prior owner did some aftermarket mods, and I found his "vehicle purchase contract" which was about $22k higher than the sticker price, even before tax (unfortunately the paperwork was light on details as to how they got to that higher number). Think the mods might have been done by Champion Motorsport which seems to specialize in some of the aftermarket components. Here are the mods:
1) Added a Werks1 - Porsche 997.1 Turbo Carbon Fiber Airbox
2) Added an aftermarket exhaust from Tubi, and new cats (the sound will wake you up if you aren't already awake, for sure)
3) Installed what seems to be custom rims which make it look like it's ready for a drag strip. Didn't know if those were from Porsche or aftermarket. Assume the latter.
I'm attaching some photos and wanted to ask if anyone has insights into these specific mods, and to confirm that a dealer would actually install mods like these at the time of purchase. Sorry for the long post & noob questions, and thanks in advance for any help..!
Werks1 AirBox
Front wheel / rim - Non-OEM I presume... 245/35 ZR20
Back wheel / rim 295/30 ZR20
There were two labels on the mufflers which said just this. Do not know how to determine which version Tubi exhaust I actually have...

Congrats on the new ride! It is certainly possible that the original dealer installed the intake, exhaust & wheel mods for the 1st owner. Try to give them a call and see if they have any of the original paperwork or details that they can share with you. You may also get lucky and find service details on the CarDax - try to hunt down additional info/details via any listed dealers/shops. It may take some effort but with some creative sleuthing you may uncover some of the information you seek.
FYI - The MSRP of my ‘08 TT Cab was $166k which is astounding considering what was going on relative to the overall economy in 2008. I can’t believe the original owner paid that kind of dough back then but they truly are super cars! I am thankful to be the 3rd owner and just hit 17k miles.
Good luck in your discovery process and enjoy!

Thanks for the advice. Called the dealership today as you suggested and the former sales rep is actually still there who sold it in 08. Hope to connect with him tomorrow. Yeah the MSRP on this one was over $160k and the vehicle purchase contract was $187k all-in incl taxes (assuming he actually did those mods at purchase as I suspect). That is an absolute boatload for 2008.
Btw it sounds like you have an amazing TT Cab - enjoy!

Three Wheelin'
That's a really sharp looking car. Color combo with the black and yellow works well. Congrats!

I am local to Champion here....they have the dealership "Champion Porsche" and then a few miles away they have "Champion Motorsports"
They basically funnel clients who want aftermarket work over to the Motorsports business. I think they do a Dinan type thing where they wont just void your warranty if you do the work with them etc.
But given that it is 2008 I don't think that is something to worry about now.
Tubi and all things Werks1 is usually what they install/sell....so I can almost guarantee that's where all that stuff was installed. Google Maps the names and you will see for yourself.

Awesome - thank you for that intel. Yes, I looked up their locations and those facilities are super close. I also visited the Champion Motorsports website and they still sell all Tubi and Werks products, so I'm sure your right on the money.
Interestingly, I have been trading texts with the Champion sales agent who sold the car back in the day, and we're going to try and connect live in next week or two. Will be good to see if he has any additional records for me. Fun to play a little Sherlock Holmes here...

Didn't know a Porsche dealer would do this day one for a customer before delivery (especially the tune). All of this was right before the great recession late 2007 - life was good!

Just wanted you to know you were spot on. I spoke with the sales person who sold the car from Champion Porsche, and he connected me with Champion Motorsports. They confirmed Champion did the following mods at the time of sale (on top of the MSRP):
-Tubi Exhaust
-Champion Motorsport Exhaust Manifolds
-Champion Motorsport Intercoolers
-Champion Motorsport "Werks 1" Carbon AirBox
-GIAC Software Upgrade
-Champion Motorsport 20” RS128 wheels

Anything is possible in Florida....lol.
Had to throw that one in there.....jokes aside, I think there is another dealer out west that does same kind of thing and is usually involved with the Pikes Peak hill climb.
To say the least it is a smart way to increase revenue streams for whomever is the owner of the dealer etc.
Congrats on the sweet ride!!!!!!!!!!
