Turbo S cab vs later GTS

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get back into a Turbo after a few years of absence - I've had 964, 993, and 996 Turbos in the past. I've been contemplating 2011-13 Turbo S Cabs, as the last of the line of the turbo vs NA engines. A friend however insists that getting a newer 991 GTS with the upgraded technology is the better choice for roughly the same money.

Do any of you have a view on this?

Thanks!.

The Turbo is the last of the 997's. I really like the mechanical steering feedback of the 997 vs the electric steering of the 991. I am really partial to my 997.2 Turbo Cab.

Thanks and beautiful car! I do think that at some point more tech gets to be counterproductive, and have heard similar things about the steering.

PS -great plate!

I've also been thinking about TT vs GTS. GTS looks so great but I've never driven one. Also I think what it should come down to what will feel more special say 10yrs from now? Turbo or the GTS, my wild guess is Turbo hence why I'm sticking with it.

I think that is true - I certainly wish I had held onto my 993.

I had an 88 Carrera, 96 993 C4S and now, for 5 years, this 2012 911 Turbo S. In a million years I wouldn't want a newer GTS instead of my car. But truly, none of us could even remotely help you decide what to do. Just test drive them both and you'll know within 30 minutes of driving them both what to do. The 2011-2013 Turbo S's would be by pick for convertible any day over a newish GTS since I'd always feel like I settled, but that's just me. I like to get the best of the best (as long as it doesn't have a big rear wing) in terms of 911's for my budget which is why I went for this 2012. I never once missed my 993 after getting the newer car. Get this, the air conditioning actually blows out super cold air, even on the hottest day of the summer. Amazing.

better choice?
Really depends on what you want out of the car... I'm assuming your primarily thinking 991.1 generation GTS if you are thinking equiv. cost...

Pure performance? 997.2 Turbo.
Less depreciation? 997.2 Turbo.
Cool factor? 997.2 Turbo.
Daily driver? 991.1 GTS
Better infotainment? 991.1 GTS
Lower service costs? 991.GTS

Personally, the 991.1 generation base, S, and GTS do not interest me at all. 991.1 Turbo and 991.1 GT3, absolutely.

With the 991.2 generation and th 3.0 liter turbocharged engines in the base, S, and GTS, they start to get interesting. Especially when tuned.

Personally, I just chose a 991.1 Turbo S to go with my 996 Turbo. More expensive than a 997.2 Turbo or 991.1 GTS, about the same or even a bit less than a 991.2 GTS. (and imho will crush them both, no offense)

OMG... what color and year is that 991.1 Turbo S? Atlas Grey? Are those Porsche OEM wheels or aftermarket? If so, which brand and type? They are perfect for your car, and similar color combination to my grey/black wheel MB S63. Dang... I'm salivating. And... out of boredom, I'm checking cars.com and AutoTrader just see to see if there's any to test drive within 50 miles of my house in that color. Just ... wow! I thought I'd hold out for a 2017, the 991.2 Turbo S when prices dropped for some of the upgrades but they are still very expensive. I'm not really looking to sell my 997 Turbo S but the pandemic gives me too much idle time to research crazy ideas like this. I wonder if I'm the only one?

Close, Agate Grey Metallic...

OE Porsche Turbo S centerlocks, but black instead of the usual silver machined face.

Personally, I think the 991.1 Turbo S is in a sweet spot right now and in the coming months. Nice examples coming on the market under a hundred, and the differences to the 991.2 TT and TTS are IMHO fairly trivial considering the price differential.
