997TT Without Sport Chrono
 

My dream car literally is a 997TT. If I won the lottery it's the only car I would buy. Just for some context.

I've found one I can afford, BARELY. Clean Carfax. PPI coming up.

But here's why it's cheap: Cab (actually wanted a Cab lol) and Tip (I'll never be on a track and all roads within 3 hours are straight and flat) and NO Sport Chrono. Yikes.

Sport Chrono would give that tip really nice throttle response... Most owners consider it a must.

But honestly, I'd have the car of my dreams. So let's just assume for a second that the PPI comes back perfect. Would you buy this Turbo or wait for a top-notch 997 C4S? Because if I don't get this specific Turbo I'm probably gonna end up with a C4S.

PS: 997 0-60 slower without Sport Chrono? Assuming yes.

Edit: Also just realized it's a launch car, just based on the options. That's ok right?

Turbo without Chrono over a 4S with.

Splash out on a tune and you've got a better than stock w Chrono car.

Or buy the SC upgrade from Suncoast.

If the car checks out and ticks all the boxes, do it, but be warned - no matter the ticket price, the ride and servicing won't be Toyota Corolla cheap - these are not cheap cars to run by any stretch of the imagination, although they're leagues better than a Ferrari etc.

I've owned three turbos with Sport Chrono and never used it. If the TT you're looking at meets all your other criteria Sport Chrono should not be a show stopper. And, if you want additional power and boost get your car tuned. You'll never miss Sport Chrono.

As others stated a tune will get you that throttle and bump in power over a Sport Chrono car. That being said as Carlos said a PPI can miss things, my 997tt flew through a PPI, but once I started working on it doing some maintenance some ugly prior workmanship cost me extensively replacing lots of wrong hardware as well as repairing all the coil connectors from some hack doing the plugs. On top of that the wrong plugs were in the car.

Having someone who knows these older 911 Turbos extensively is key, as they get older you will want to find someone who specializes in them as your run of the mill techs/indy shops might not be the most effective repairer.

Having 3-5k ready for anything major if you do the work yourself, if you dont work on them yourself 7-10k in reserves is a safe number.

I have a chance to get this 08 cab with tip for $50k. Like I said no sport chrono. A launch code car for the showroom. 57k miles. Black on black. It’s a rare deal right? I rarely see these under $60k

Price seems a little low but with higher mileage and being a tip/cab it most likely is not a bad deal if everything checks out, tip/cabs seem to have the lowest value of the bunch.

I have a SC... I surprisingly prefer to drive around with it off. I also like the smoother power delivery that gives a more linear and more smooth/rewarding power delivery feel all the way to redline where with SC you get that punch and then *yawnISH* feel

If the car checks out, get it! You can add the SC later on or tune the car like others stated.

I do not have SC. Honestly I think its a waste if you ever plan to tune to the car.

Ditto on the SC and I also preferred the clean dash look I had on my non-SC 991 4S. Something purist about it... The price is just fine and as long as you have a good feeling and relevant data on the car after PPI, then go for it. Don't be surprised if you need brakes, tires, or similar maintenance items.

You'll love the cab with tip combo! It really is a dream car (it was mine as well). Probably the last 100% gasoline powered vehicle I'll ever purchase. Once you have a 997TT, there's really nothing else beyond what I view as the apex of the era.

Unbelievable power. I don't use the SC on mine much at all, and the price you quoted sounds excellent - gives you savings to apply to exhaust and tuning.

One thing, though: Just remember to drive it like you stole it! You'll never look back...

The tips actually have better performance times than the manuals - as do the PDKs. If condition is good and maintenance is up to date go for it. Turbo is way better than an S.

Sport Chronometer? I have it on my car, I guess. Don't laugh but I have no idea what it's for and even if I did, I would never, ever use it. The car is so freakin' fast in just regular mode, not even sport plus that ... it's all I'd never need. Just go for it man! You'll never lose money on this car. You'll always wish you had the Turbo if you don't get one now.
