EXPERTS! What happens at 2.6k RPM?
Driving with the windows down...
...I noticed a metallic 'SCRATCH' that happens EVERY TIME I pass the 2.6k RPM level while cruising (2nd gear, throttle less than 25% open)
on a gradual ACceleration from 2k to 3k--I hear it
on a gradual DEceleration from 3k to 2k--I hear it
on a sustained hold of 2.6k--I hear it
DESCRIPTION OF SOUND - If were to you take a piece of aluminum foil and quickly crumble it in a ball (all in 1 beat)
I can hear it clearly from drivers side mid/front of car, but you probably wouldn't notice it if you drove it and I didn't tell you about the sound.
It definitely sounds like something is mechanically switch on/off/, opening/closing.
Does anyone know what this could be?
it's an 07 6MT Sport Chrono PCCB

Three Wheelin'
Happened to me on my 997.1 Carrera also right at 2.5k rpm. Turned out to be a loose exhaust tip bolt. Snugged it up and that got rid of the sound.
